Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with over 20 years of expertise to lead the Modernization Plan of the Government Saw Mill at Chatham, Port Blair, A & N Islands. As the Team Leader, you will oversee the mechanical design, development, and implementation of modernization initiatives aimed at upgrading sawmill operations, enhancing efficiency, and incorporating advanced technologies. This role requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in mechanical engineering, sawmill operations, and team leadership, capable of driving the project to successful completion.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the modernization of the Government Saw Mill by planning, designing, and implementing advanced mechanical systems to improve operational efficiency and productivity.

Supervise the engineering team, ensuring smooth collaboration and effective execution of tasks related to the sawmill's mechanical and technical aspects.

Oversee the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.

Collaborate with the project management team, civil engineers, and technical experts to ensure timely delivery of project milestones and integration of cutting-edge technologies.

Ensure the sawmill's mechanical systems are optimized for safety, environmental sustainability, and operational longevity.

Prepare and review technical documents, drawings, and reports, and ensure all designs adhere to project goals and regulatory requirements.

Manage resources, timelines, and budgets effectively, addressing any challenges to meet project deadlines.

Implement risk management strategies to identify potential issues and mitigate them through proactive measures.

Provide technical expertise and leadership to guide the team in troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical challenges.

Engage with stakeholders, including government officials and contractors, to ensure that the modernization aligns with strategic objectives and operational needs.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Wood Technology/ Timber Technology, or a related field.

Minimum of 20 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with specific expertise in sawmill operations, industrial machinery, or modernization projects.

Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing large-scale industrial modernization projects.

Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design, installation, and optimization in the timber or manufacturing industry.

Excellent project management skills, with experience handling budgets, resources, and timelines.

Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and other relevant engineering tools.

Strong understanding of safety regulations, environmental standards, and sustainable engineering practices.

Exceptional problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovation and efficiency.

Preferred Skills:

Experience in modernization projects within the wood processing or timber industry.

Knowledge of green engineering and sustainable practices in industrial settings.

Familiarity with government projects and compliance with public sector requirements.
