We are hiring a Sybase Database Engineer with 2-12 years of experience to join our managed services team in Chennai or Bangalore for a 1-year BAU support role. This position requires expertise in Sybase ASE, RS, and IQ, with a focus on automation, performance optimization, and cloud integration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and manage scalable Sybase ASE, RS, and IQ configurations, including replication for homogeneous/heterogeneous environments.
  • Automate patch deployments, installations, and BAU tasks using shell scripting or other programming languages.
  • Optimize data storage, retrieval, indexing, query performance, and infrastructure to ensure high efficiency.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., GDPR, SOX).
  • Collaborate with application developers and system administrators to enhance database operations and interactions.
  • Design and implement DR/resiliency strategies, cloud-based Sybase solutions (Azure/AWS), and technology evolution initiatives (POCs, R&D).
  • Manage database migrations (e.g., Sybase ASE to MSSQL/PostgreSQL) and upgrades.
  • Monitor performance, troubleshoot data corruption, long-running queries, blockings, and deadlocks using tools like Performance Monitor.
  • Handle account management, security/audit parameters, and periodical backups/recovery.
  • Document database structures, SOPs, and maintain ITIL-based incident/crisis management.
  • Mentor team members and drive end-to-end project management, leveraging LEAN methodology for BAU optimization.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's/Master's in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
  • 2-12 years of in-depth experience with Sybase ASE, RS, and IQ architecture, configuration, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency in SQL/T-SQL, index defragmentation, re-indexing, query optimization, and client/server connectivity.
  • Strong experience in automating BAU tasks, replication monitoring, and backup/recovery scheduling.
  • Knowledge of Azure/AWS integration, shell scripting, and ITIL framework (incident/crisis management).
  • Excellent problem-solving, team collaboration, and presentation skills (PPT, Excel with macros).
  • Ability to work independently in a 24x7 rotational shift environment with a positive attitude.

Preferred:

  • Sybase certification or equivalent.
  • Experience in cloud platforms (Azure/AWS), LEAN methodology, and open-source technologies.
  • Background in financial/telecom domains or managed services projects.
