About the Role

Xebia is looking for an experienced and hands-on SDE 3 – Senior Data Engineer to lead the development of scalable data solutions. As a senior IC (individual contributor), you'll influence architecture decisions, coach teams, and deliver high-performance data engineering systems for large-scale, enterprise environments.

You'll work across the full data lifecycle—from ingestion and storage to transformation and analytics—leveraging technologies like Spark, Scala, SQL, Cloud Native tools, and Hadoop, in a fast-paced, agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of data pipelines using Apache Spark and Scala
  • Architect cloud-native, scalable, and fault-tolerant data platforms (Azure preferred)
  • Drive development of streaming pipelines using Kafka/Event Hub/Spark Streaming
  • Guide system design with a focus on scalability, low-latency, and performance
  • Work on structured and unstructured data, Data Lakes, and Medallion Architecture
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, mentor junior engineers, and lead Agile squads
  • Implement best practices for CI/CD, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and orchestration (Airflow/Oozie)

Must-Have Skills

  • Apache Spark, Scala (or Java with strong preference for Scala)
  • SQL and Data Structures, Query Optimization
  • Hadoop and Distributed Systems
  • Cloud-native architecture (Azure preferred)
  • System Design, Big Data Design Patterns
  • CI/CD: Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Kafka/Structured Streaming
  • Experience with NoSQL, Messaging Queues, Orchestration tools

Good-to-Have Skills

  • Apache Iceberg, Parquet, Ceph, Kafka Connect
  • Experience with Data Governance tools: Alation, Collibra
  • Data Lakes and Medallion Architecture
  • Metadata Management, Master Data Management
  • Data Quality and Lineage frameworks
