About the Role:

Applications are sought for suitable ICU Senior registrars post successful completion of the College of Intensive Care Medicine criteria to enter Transition year, for the 2026 Training Program for one year with possible extension.

North Canberra Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit is a tertiary level, mixed adult Intensive Care admitting over 600 patients a year.  The ICU is accredited by the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) for foundation training (application submitted for C6).

Our intensive care trainees are exposed to a broad case mix of critically ill patients. There are 10 physical bed spaces currently with a plan to construct a new hospital in the next 5 years. For those senior trainees interested in a training year that involves retrieval medicine as well as ICU, please contact us as below. 

A Transition Year Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine plays a key role in the delivery of medical care to critically ill patients. The position is a transitional role between that of Registrar and Consultant, with flexibility and graded responsibility to allow increasing clinical autonomy, and development of skills in research, education and administration.

We offer a structured teaching program tailored for the needs of the individual advanced trainee while providing support from Staff Specialists experienced in the practice of Intensive Care Medicine.

It is expected that all appointees will be registered with the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) and will have completed the CICM Part 2 examination and all other rotational requirements necessary to be eligible for the TY including submission of formal project.
