Platform Engineer

As a Platform Engineer (SDE2) at NAB, you will be a trusted, independent member of the team responsible for the end-to-end delivery of features and services that empower thousands of developers across the bank. You will take ownership of key components within our multi-cloud Internal Developer Platform, designing, building, and maintaining the tools that enable our engineering teams to ship software faster and more securely. This is an opportunity to deepen your expertise in cloud-native technologies, drive meaningful improvements to the developer experience, and play a vital role in our mission to become Australia's best engineering bank.What You'll Do:As a SDE2, you will be a hands-on builder, taking ideas from concept to production and ensuring their ongoing reliability and performance.- Design and Build Platform Services: Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable and reliable components of our developer platform, focusing on areas such as secure CI/CD, observability, on-demand environments, or cloud infrastructure management. - Manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Build and manage our multi-cloud infrastructure, using IaC principles and tools. You will create reusable modules and automated workflows for provisioning and managing resources. - Enhance CI/CD Pipelines: Develop and enhance secure, high-velocity CI/CD pipelines using tools like Harness, ensuring robust automation for the build, testing, and deployment of a wide variety of applications. - Implement Observability: Implement and manage comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) to provide deep visibility into the health and performance of our platform services and hosted applications. - Improve Developer Experience: Collaborate closely with product engineering teams to understand their pain points, gather requirements, and build self-service tools and workflows that make their lives easier. - Uphold Engineering Excellence: Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to your peers. You will also contribute to technical design discussions and help maintain high standards for code quality and system reliability. - Implementing Ephemeral Infrastructure: Build and implement on-demand, ephemeral environments that can come up automatedly, from our internal developer portals spawning up all the dependencies with components of test automation running as part of the on-demand infrastructure spin up. - Nack for Risk and Security: As part of being a banking / financial institution, security and risk in ingrained in our daily activity. A key competency would be not just building great tech but also building with the best practices of security & risk ingrained in our daily work.What You'll Bring:We are looking for experienced engineers with a passion for automation, reliability, and building tools that developers love to use.- Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in a Platform Engineering, DevOps, or a backend engineering role. - Cloud Proficiency: Hands-on experience building and managing infrastructure in at least one major cloud provider (AWS or Google Cloud), with exposure to core services like EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, or their equivalents. - Container and Orchestration Expertise: Strong, practical experience with containerization using Docker and container orchestration using Kubernetes. You should be comfortable writing Kubernetes manifests and managing workloads. - Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proven proficiency with IaC tools such as Terraform and Ansible for automating infrastructure provisioning and configuration management. - CI/CD Implementation: Demonstrable experience designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools like Harness, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar. - Programming and Scripting: Strong programming and scripting skills in languages such as Python, Go, Java, or Shell, with a focus on writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code.Good to Have:These skills are not mandatory but will set you apart and enable you to make a faster impact:- Experience with advanced CI/CD and deployment orchestration tools like Harness. - Knowledge of service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd) for managing microservices communication. - Familiarity with building developer tools or portals using TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks. - Experience working in a regulated financial services environment and an understanding of associated security and compliance requirements. - Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate).
