PKWARE is seeking a Mainframe Software Engineer with deep expertise in Assembler (HLASM) and C programming within IBM z/OS environments. You will design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade mainframe software solutions, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, enhance, and maintain applications on IBM z/OS using Assembler, C, JCL, REXX, and related technologies.Participate in the full SDLC: requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, and production support.Optimize performance, troubleshoot defects, and ensure system reliability.Collaborate with cross-functional teams (System Engineers, QA, DevOps, Business Stakeholders).Maintain technical documentation, coding standards, and operational procedures.Support legacy systems while contributing to modernization efforts.Required Qualifications5+ years of programming experience in:Assembler / HLASM (on z/OS)C (on z/OS)Comprehensive expertise in IBM subsystems and z/OS internals: cross-memory services, SRB management, Program Call routines, interlanguage communication (Assembler, Java, C, REXX).Extensive experience in APF-authorized code development and secure, high-performance system-level modules.Expert-level proficiency in HLASM and z/OS system macros for program management, storage, synchronization, recovery, and messaging.Skilled in subsystem interfaces and exits integrating with JES, SMF, and core components.Advanced debugging using XDC, IPCS, dump analysis for complex system issues.Familiarity with Sysplex communication using XCF macros.Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies for mission-critical software delivery.Preferred SkillsKnowledge of Zowe, z/OSMF, RESTful APIs, modernization/integration projects.Strong Java development skills (JZOS, JNI, batch-mode applications).Familiarity with ICSF, RACF, SMP/E packaging, SBOM compliance (CycloneDX/SPDX).EducationBachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, IT, or equivalent experience.What We OfferCompetitive salary and benefits.Opportunity to work on mission-critical enterprise systems.Professional growth and training on modern mainframe and hybrid cloud technologies.Collaborative and inclusive work environment.About PKWAREPKWARE delivers the only data discovery and protection solution that locates and secures sensitive data across any device or environment.
