JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Staff Nurse plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality patient care, overseeing nursing practices, and supporting nursing staff within the unit. This role involves providing expert clinical care, mentoring junior nurses, and ensuring adherence to hospital policies and protocols. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a compassionate approach to patient care, and the ability to lead and support a team effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients, ensuring compliance with hospital standards.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and procedures as per physician orders and hospital protocols.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, symptoms, and any changes in patient conditions, reporting critical information promptly.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship:
  • Act as a mentor and resource for junior nursing staff, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Supervise nursing staff within the assigned unit, ensuring tasks are completed to high standards.
  • Assist in orientation and onboarding of new nursing staff and student nurses.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in all nursing activities.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
  • Document all patient care accurately in the hospital’s information systems.
  • Patient & Family Education:
  • Educate patients and their families about care plans, procedures, and health maintenance, ensuring clarity and addressing any concerns.
  • Advocate for patients’ needs and rights, ensuring a patient-centered approach in all interactions.
  • Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams:
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare team members to optimize patient care outcomes.
  • Participate in case discussions, ward rounds, and handover meetings to coordinate and communicate care plans.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSC Nursing) or equivalent; a diploma in nursing may be considered with extensive experience.
  • Licensure: Valid Nursing License from the Nursing Council [Specify Country/State].
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a registered nurse, preferably with 1-2 years in a senior nursing role within a hospital.
  • Skills:
  • Strong clinical skills in areas such as medication administration, IV therapy, wound care, and emergency response.
  • Proficiency in using hospital information systems and electronic medical records.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
