Job Summary:

As a Patent Drafter/ Patent Prosecution Specialist/ Paralegal for Filing/ Patent illustrator at Chandigarh University IPR Cell, you will play a pivotal role in protecting

our innovative ideas and inventions. Your primary responsibility will be to draft and prepare

high-quality patent applications that adhere to IP and other legal requirements. This position

requires a strong understanding of intellectual property, excellent drafting skills, and the ability

to work collaboratively with Professors, Student, Research scholar etc. and legal experts to

secure intellectual property rights.


Key Responsibilities:

-Collaborate with Professors, Students, Inventors, researchers, and legal experts to

understand innovative concepts and technologies (Inventor’s interview to fetch out the novelty).

-Draft Patent applications (PS/CS) in compliance with Indian laws, ensuring clear and

comprehensive protection for university inventions.

-Excellent at drafting Patent Claims.

-Conduct prior art searches and analyze existing patents to strengthen the patent

applications.

-Assist in the development of intellectual property strategies, including patent portfolio

management and maintenance.

-Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and claims to support patent applications.

Liaise with external agencies for filing and prosecution processes.

-Maintain accurate records of patent documentation and deadlines.

-Stay updated on changes in patent laws and regulations to ensure compliance and

maximize protection.

-Contribute to the development of an innovative and proactive IPR Cell within the

university.

-Doing IP Awareness in the university.


Qualifications and Skills:

A Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant field (e.g., engineering, science, technology,

Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, Biomedical, Chemistry, Pharmacy,

Mechanical, IoT, Robotics, AI etc).

Minimum of 1-5 years of experience in patent drafting.

Strong understanding of patent laws and regulations in India.

Proficiency in drafting patent claims, technical specifications, and patent illustrations.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong analytical and research abilities.

Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills.

Ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Registered Patent Agent with the Indian Patent Office (preferred).


Patent Prosecution Specialist:

Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare and prosecute patent applications across various fields of innovation pertinent to university research.

- Analyze and respond to First Examination Reports (FER) from the patent office, formulating strategic responses to address and overcome objections.

- Represent the university at oral hearings before the patent office to advocate for the grant of patents.

- Collaborate closely with faculty, researchers, and external patent attorneys to ensure robust protection of intellectual property.

- Perform detailed patent searches and analyses to assess the patentability of new inventions.

- Advise on patent strategies, patent law issues, and intellectual property rights.

- Manage and maintain the university’s patent portfolio, including record-keeping and administrative tasks related to patent applications and prosecution.

- Train and educate university staff and students on intellectual property matters.

- Draft and negotiate intellectual property agreements, including licensing agreements.

- Stay updated on national and international changes in patent laws and practices.
