Reporting to the Field Supervisor, the Protection Technician will oversee the maintenance and commissioning of protection, automation & control equipment within distribution, zone and sub-transmission substations and networks. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety, reliability, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness of our services for customers and the integrity of our network assets.

To be successful, you must have:

Qualification in a relevant electrical trade (Cert III Electrotechnology or equivalent).  A Class C drivers’ licence.  A WH&S Work Cover – General Induction.  Experience in analysing electrical drawings (schematic diagrams is desirable).  Sound computer skills for both office-based & industry-specific programs for testing, commissioning & interrogation of network assets. 

Skills & Qualifications (Not essential but advantageous):

Experience in fault finding & problem solving.  Knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including control systems, instrumentation and automation equipment. (PLC, instrumentation, SCADA or other operating systems).  Cert III, Cert IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in relevant discipline (Power Systems, Industrial Electronics, Instrumentation etc).  Proven experience in HV (High Voltage) Switching.  Experience with Permit to Work systems.  Demonstrated experience with a computerised maintenance management system.
