KVM Specialist

About Position:

We are seeking a highly skilled KVM Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and managing the migration of VMWare workloads to KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) environments. This role requires a deep understanding of virtualization technologies, and data center management strategies. Also, the Person should also possess skill to setup the production ready KVM setup.

What You'll Do:

• Evaluate the existing VMware environment and setup new Oracle Linux KVM environment as per the existing VMware infra.
• Evaluate existing data center environments to determine migration requirements and constraints
• Develop comprehensive migration plans including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define migration objectives and success criteria.
• Perform assessment of existing data center environment considering dependencies between hypervisor, VMs and network.
• Decommission VMWare hypervisor setups.
• Create new KVM Hypervisors from scratch over bare metal servers.
• Utilize tools and scripts (shell, python) to automate migration tasks where possible.
• Build Terraform pipeline to create VMs over KVM
• Build pipeline using Packer to create Golden images of Linux VM over KVM.
• Design test criteria for validating KVM Hypervisor setup.
• Validate/certify the created KVM Hypervisor to be released for Guest VMs creation.
• Validate the integrity and performance of the migrated environments.
• Provide post-migration support to address any issues and optimize performance.
• Document migration processes and outcomes for future reference.
• Work closely with IT teams, database administrators, and application owners throughout the migration process.
• Provide regular status updates to stakeholders and management.
• Conduct training sessions and handover documentation for operational teams.

Expertise You'll Bring:

• Strong experience in setup production ready KVM environment. Good to have Oracle KMV experience.
• Strong expertise in KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) technology and virtualization.
• Experience with KVM migration tools and techniques.
• Experience with VMWare technology and virtualization
• Strong experience with automation tools like Ansible and Terraform to automate the build and deployment process.
• Strong Linux administration experience.
• Certifications related to virtualization (e.g., Red Hat Certified Specialist in Virtualization) are a plus.
