Bookkeeper/Senior Accountant

Role Objective:
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Bookkeeper manages all company accounting, reporting, and financial management aspects.
Working with the management team, the role will review operating costs and business performance relative to company sales growth aims and profitability targets and find areas for productivity improvements and cost savings.
Salary - £220- £320 per month
Job Role - Full Time & Permanent Remote
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable
- Process all purchase invoices, deal with supplier queries, pay suppliers, and prepare remittance pieces of advice.
- Conducting reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities
- Process credit card transactions and staff expenses.
Accounts Receivable
- Post receipts daily, and provide account managers with a weekly open invoice report.
Bank Reconciliation
- Ensure bank transactions are up to date and reconciled monthly for the GBP, Euro, USD, and PayPal accounts.
- Ensure that online transactions on the e-commerce website are reconciled monthly.
Credit Control
- Prepare the open invoices report weekly and chase account managers for details about any overdue amounts.
- Authorise all orders based on a review of credit limits and outstanding invoices.
Credit Insurance
- Manage the credit insurance process and provider.
- Ensure credit insurance balances are up to date.
- Apply for credit insurance for new customers.
- We regularly review the insurance requirements for all customers to ensure that the best credit amounts are in place for each.
VAT (ink EC Sales)
Prepare and lodge the monthly VAT return and EC sales lists
Payroll
- Calculate the sales commissions and bonuses monthly to be paid to the sales employees.
- Prepare the monthly payroll for submission to the outsourced payroll provider.
FOREX
- Manage accounts in 3 currencies which include inter-account transfers.
- Review, check, and record the daily exchange rates for GBP/Euro and GBP/USD
- Check the daily bank balances to recommend any currency exchange to GBP.
- Use favorable currency rates to trade with exchange providers.
Pension
- Administer pension payments and manage pension providers.
Cash Flow
- Produce and report cash flow forecasts.
Management Accounts
- Prepare monthly management packs, and accounts with commentary.
- Find and check financial ratios and KPIs.
- Collaborate with external financial accountants.
Administration
- Define key finance policies, procedures, and processes within the finance function.
- Aid with finance projects (such as QuickBooks migration to Xero)
- Developing external relationships with proper third-party contacts, e.g. accountants, solicitors, bankers, and statutory organisations such as the Inland Revenue
- Produce correct financial reports to specific deadlines.
- Keep abreast and report changes in financial regulations and legislation.
Financial Expertise
- Strong knowledge of accounting
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards (FRS 102, FRS 105).
- Ability to prepare financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
- Taxation knowledge (VAT returns, corporate tax, PAYE compliance).
- Experience with cost and profit margin analysis.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities.
- Excellent diligence to ensure accuracy.
- Resolving discrepancies in records and bank reconciliations.
Software Proficiency
- Advanced skills in accounting software like Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or SAP.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros).
- Basic familiarity with CRM software (e.g. Zoho CRM)
- G-suite and Microsoft Office
Regulatory Knowledge
- Awareness of HMRC compliance requirements.
- Understanding of GDPR and its implications on financial data handling.
Analytical Thinking
- Ability to analyze financial data to find trends and offer actionable insights.
- Strong critical thinking skills for resolving discrepancies.
Communication
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for consulting with stakeholders.
- Ability to present complex financial data in a simplified manner.
Core Bookkeeping Skills
- Proficient in double-entry bookkeeping.
- Accurate maintenance of financial records, including ledgers, journals, and bank reconciliations.
- Handling accounts payable/receivable.
Data Management
- Efficient filing and retrieval of digital and physical financial records.
- Experience with cloud-based bookkeeping systems.
