About the Role:

As an Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for building and maintaining web applications that deliver exceptional user experiences. You will play a critical role in the full software development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing and deployment. Your work will involve developing and managing the back-end, and lead the engineering team which include front-end and back-end developers. You will also be responsible for DevOps work, requiring a strong understanding of our tech stack (AWS, Docker, Node.js, Koa, MongoDB, and React.js). You will collaborate with a cross-functional team to design, develop, and implement features that meet our users' needs.

Job Responsibilities:

As a lead Backend Engineer you will be responsible for:

1. Design, develop, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code using Node.js, Koa, and Mongoose.
2. Design, implement, and maintain a scalable and secure AWS infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and compliance with industry standards.
3. Monitor and optimize AWS resources, such as ECS, EC2 and LightSail instances, and S3 storage
4. Monitor, upgrade, and update Linux Ubuntu Hosts
5. Managing security and access controls, including IAM roles and permissions
6. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and developers to conceptualize and deliver new features and enhancements.
7. Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code that follows best practices and coding standards.
8. Collaborate with the front-end team to integrate backend services with front-end applications, which require good understanding of React.js.
9. Integrate third-party services and APIs and work with databases using Mongoose.
10. Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and share knowledge with the team.
11. Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems.
12. Contribute to the continuous improvement of the development process.
13. Stay updated with emerging technologies and frameworks that can improve our development efforts.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience in backend development
• Proven experience as a Backend Engineer, with a strong portfolio showcasing applications built with Node.js, Koa, and Mongoose.
• Strong knowledge of maintaining Linux/Ubuntu hosts
• Strong expertise in infrastructure automation with tools like Ansible
• In depth understanding of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes/Docker Swarm) technologies.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services and best practices
• Experience in web servers/reverse proxies like Caddy, Nginx, Apache
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, TLS protocols and best practices
• Experience with cloud security
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript, and React.js.
• Extensive experience with Node.js, Koa, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and experience integrating third-party services.
• Experience with databases, particularly MongoDB, and using Mongoose for database schema design.
• Knowledge of front-end technologies, such as HTML5, CSS3, and ES6+.
• Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Knowledge of code versioning tools, such as Git.
• Attention to detail and good judgement
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving aptitude.

Note: Prior experience of working in Startups, Fintechs or Marketplaces will be preferred.
