About the Project
Vihara Innovation Network has partnered with Rohini Nilekani Philanthropy to launch an initiative aimed at fostering healing from intergenerational trauma and equipping 25,000 youth from vulnerable communities with life skills for empowerment and thriving. The initiative will train 250 Youth Champions to lead youth groups in identifying mental health stressors, mapping goals and aspirations, and employing personalized gamified tools like Humara Sapna .
This program adopts a layered approach that directly engages families and communities to provide an enabling support system while forging partnerships with ecosystem stakeholders to ensure long-term sustainability. The initiative employs experiential upskilling techniques to track mindset shifts, skill development, and their correlation with improved well-being, ultimately creating a nurturing and empowering environment for young individuals.
Key Responsibilities
Support Content Strategy and Tool development: Develop and implement participatory tools, visual aids and methodologies to engage youth and adolescents in the trauma healing and life skills development process. With support from senior designers, design and develop interventions, and visual aids,
Iteratively prototype and test tools on the field, and adapt them based on research findings and participant feedback to create the final suite of solutions for implementation.
Design and conduct training sessions for Youth Champions and community stakeholders, focusing on mental health identification, goal mapping, and using gamified tools. Provide mentorship and guidance to Youth Champions in implementing research and design tools. Ensure that all design research processes are adaptable and culturally sensitive to diverse rural and urban settings.
Create Project Communication Materials: Contribute to the creation of project communication tools and aids for different stakeholders that clearly illustrate program narratives and strategies.
Collaborate on Content design and Outputs: Work closely with team members and designers to creatively package insights and learnings into visually rich innovation narratives for the toolkit, aid the project manager and team in preparing client reports and other deliverables.
Document Project Processes: Assist in documenting project processes and capturing pivotal design decisions and turning points.
Manage Online Presence: Help curate and manage the program's online presence, including its website, blog, and social media platforms.
Maintain Communication Archives: Assist in maintaining a robust archive of all project communication materials, complete with introductory blurbs, out-briefs, project documentation, and imagery.
Required Skills & Experience
3-5 years of experience in Visual Semantics and Visual Design, with a strong emphasis on information design, communication, and social design. Experience in curriculum design and development, especially in the context of youth and adolescent programs.
Aptitude for visual storytelling and narrative construction, with prior experience or coursework in strategic communications or design research projects.
Proven ability to create participatory tools and frameworks for community engagement and empowerment. Solid experience in conducting training and workshops, especially for youth and community-based stakeholders.
Experience in rapidly creating prototypes using relevant software, and iteratively testing prototypes on the field with users and beneficiaries.
Experience with digital design tools and platforms for creating interactive content or gamified solutions. Strong skills in Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator, and Collaborative platforms like Figma, Canva, and Google Suite.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed approaches and mental health issues, particularly in vulnerable populations will be an addition. Familiarity with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles or other psychological frameworks related to trauma healing.
Experience working in rural and urban low-income settings, with an ability to adapt research methods to local contexts.
Knowledge of gamification and other interactive design techniques for youth engagement.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly present research findings, insights, and recommendations to diverse audiences.
Ability to synthesize complex qualitative data and translate it into actionable design directions.
Passion for social change, empowerment, and the well-being of marginalized communities.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
Effective planning and organizational skills to manage tasks and meet deadlines.
