JOB SUMMARY:

A Senior 3D Designer is responsible for leading the creative and technical development of 3D assets, ensuring that the team delivers high-quality 3D models, animations, and visual effects that align with project objectives. The role involves overseeing the 3D design process from concept through to completion, providing both creative and technical leadership. Senior 3D designers collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Product designers, Marketing team, Graphic designers to produce assets for a variety of applications, product design and virtual experiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. 3D Concept Development & Visualization: Creative Vision & Ability to think conceptually and visually, translating briefs into detailed storyboards, mood boards, and style frames. Collaborating with stakeholders (creative directors, Product Designer, project managers) to refine ideas. This involves presenting multiple iterations, soliciting feedback, and ensuring that the final vision aligns with both creative and business goals.
  2. 3D Modeling & Texturing: Creating high-poly models for photorealistic renders and low-poly models for real-time applications like games or VR, balancing quality and performance. Generating detailed textures (diffuse, bump, displacement maps) using software like Substance Painter, Mari, or Photoshop to enhance realism. Understanding UV mapping and baking textures for different render engines is crucial.
  3. Animation: Overseeing or directly animating intricate sequences, from product demonstrations to character movements, ensuring lifelike or stylistic animations based on project requirements.
  4. Rendering & Lighting: Depending on the project, the Senior 3D Designer should be able to switch between creating realistic images (e.g., product visualizations, architectural renders) and stylized visuals. Managing render times by optimizing settings, using advanced rendering techniques like global illumination, ray tracing, or path tracing, and understanding how to balance quality and performance. Using lighting techniques to set the mood, guide the viewer’s eye, and enhance the overall scene, while ensuring consistency across multiple shots.

  6. Creative Direction & Mentorship: Offering creative direction while allowing team members to express their ideas and creativity. Conducting regular reviews of junior designers’ work, providing constructive feedback to improve the quality and efficiency of their designs. Offering training in new software, workflows, or design principles. Helping junior designers troubleshoot complex design challenges, whether they are technical or artistic.
  7. Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Translating complex 3D design language for other team members like other designers & Marketing team, ensuring they understand the limitations or possibilities of certain designs. Coordinating with other teams (like Product designer, Marketing team & technical engineers at factory) to ensure all parts of the project align visually and technically.
  8. Research & Innovation: Constantly learning about new software and tools that can improve workflows, such as advancements in real-time rendering, AI-based design, or procedural modeling techniques. Well Aware about Industry, webinars, and forums to stay informed about new trends and applying that knowledge to projects & 3D process.
  9. Project Management & Timeline: Managing workloads by delegating tasks to junior designers and artists. Ensuring that each team member’s strengths are utilized appropriately. Identifying potential project risks (e.g., underestimated time for rendering or animation) and implementing contingency plans.
  10. Team Communication & Presentation: Creating comprehensive presentations, whether through static renders, interactive models, or animations, that explain the 3D design process, justifying design choices in terms of both aesthetics and functionality. Handling feedback diplomatically, making necessary revisions while balancing team requests with technical or artistic constraints.
  11. Asset Management & Documentation: Implementing clear file-naming conventions and folder structures to make sure all project assets are easy to find and reusable for future projects. Writing detailed documentation for workflows and processes, particularly for technical implementations (such as how to export assets for a specific render engine) to ensure consistency across the team.
  12. Quality Control & Review: Ensuring that the visual language is consistent across all assets, whether they are being used in Project, or product visualization. Running tests for performance (frame rates, loading times, rendering quality) to ensure the assets function as intended across different devices and platforms (PC, mobile, console, VR). Approving or rejecting assets, animations, or renders for final submission, ensuring everything meets the desired quality and specifications before the final handoff.
