Principal Engineer

Summary of Position :

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Client Virtualization Engineer to design, implement, and support virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions using Omnissa Horizon.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing both persistent and non-persistent desktop images, leveraging Microsoft FSLogix for profile management, and utilizing ControlUp for performance monitoring and optimization.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, deploy, and maintain Omnissa Horizon environments to support enterprise-level virtual desktop infrastructure.

- Manage and optimize persistent and non-persistent images, ensuring performance, security, and scalability.

- Implement and support Microsoft FSLogix for user profile management and seamless user experience.

- Management and design of AppVolumes for applying applications to virtual desktop.

- Monitor and troubleshoot VDI performance using ControlUp, identifying and resolving issues proactively.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure VDI solutions align with business and security requirements.

- Collaborate with Operational team on ensuring platform stability and uptime.

- Define and track key performance indicators such as uptime, login times, and ticket resolution time.

- Maintain comprehensive runbooks and change logs to support operational continuity.

- Automate image creation, patching, and deployment processes to streamline operations.

- Provide Tier 3 engineering support for VDI-related incidents and service requests.

- Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, and best practices.

- Forecast resource needs and perform capacity planning to ensure scalability of the VDI environment.

- Conduct proactive performance tuning and resource optimization.

- Plan and execute lifecycle upgrades of the VDI platform including Horizon, FSLogix, and AppVolumes.

- Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing for VDI infrastructure.

- Ensure compliance with security policies including image hardening, MFA, and encryption.

- Identify and implement improvements to enhance user experience and reduce operational costs.

- Evaluate trending technologies and alternatives for VDI solutions.

- Contribute to hybrid VDI strategies including Horizon Cloud on Azure or AWS.

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications :

- Proven experience with Omnissa (VMware) Horizon (Cloud or On-Prem).

- Total Exp of 7-10 years.

- Strong knowledge of Microsoft FSLogix and Windows user profile management.

- Experience with ControlUp or similar VDI monitoring tools.

- Experience with AppVolumes.

- Knowledge of network design including load balancing and dns.

- Proficiency in managing Windows 10/11 virtual desktops and server OS.

- Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).

- Scripting skills (PowerShell preferred) for automation and Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

- Excellent documentation Qualifications :

- VMware certifications (e.g., VCP-DTM).

- Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) is a plus.

- Knowledge of application layering and packaging tools.

- Familiarity with ITIL practices and service management tools.

Work hours : 3 PM to 12 AM IST.
