Job Summary:

  1. The Assistant General Manager (AGM) - Indirect Taxation will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of indirect taxation with a strong focus on Goods and Services Tax (GST) compliance, planning, and strategy.
  2. The role requires an in-depth understanding of GST laws, rules, and regulations, and the ability to apply this knowledge to optimize tax positions and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

GST Compliance:

  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9, etc.) and other related statutory filings.
  • Manage and oversee the reconciliation of GST input tax credit (ITC) and ensure proper documentation for audits.
  • Address and resolve GST-related queries and issues with tax authorities, including handling assessments and audits.

Tax Planning & Advisory:

  • Provide strategic tax planning advice to optimize tax positions and minimize tax liabilities.
  • Advise the management on the impact of new amendments, notifications, and circulars issued under GST law.
  • Evaluate and suggest tax-efficient structures for business operations, including cross-border transactions.

Audit & Risk Management:

  • Lead and coordinate internal and external audits related to GST and other indirect taxes.
  • Implement strong internal controls to mitigate risks related to indirect tax compliance.
  • Conduct regular GST health checks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the finance, legal, and operational teams to ensure seamless tax compliance.
  • Provide training and updates to relevant departments on GST-related changes and requirements.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all GST-related transactions and filings.
  • Prepare and present periodic reports to senior management on GST compliance status, risks, and opportunities.
  • Ensure proper documentation and archiving of tax-related documents for future reference and audits.

Qualifications & Experience:

Educational Qualification:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA), Cost Accountant (CMA), or equivalent qualification with specialization in Indirect Taxation.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10-12 years of experience in indirect taxation, with at least 5 years focused on GST.
  • Experience in a similar leadership role in a large corporation, preferably in a manufacturing or service industry.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of GST laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex tax legislation.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for dealing with tax authorities and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in tax-related software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
