Minimum Project Experience: 50 MLD STP/RO Equivalent, handling projects of up to 10 MLD capacity


Relevant Experience: SWD (Surface Water Discharge) projects, Detailed & Basic Engineering


Job Description:


- The Process Design Head will be responsible for overseeing the process design and engineering activities for water treatment plants, with a focus on larger capacity projects (minimum 50 MLD STP/RO or equivalent).


- The role requires significant expertise in designing, planning, and executing municipal, desalination, and reverse osmosis (RO) plants, as well as ensuring compliance with engineering standards and project specifications. The candidate should also have deep experience in handling the detailed and basic engineering packages and cost estimation for water treatment projects, from conceptualization to final execution.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Process Design:


- Lead the process design for large-scale water treatment plants (STP, RO, desalination, municipal) ensuring technical excellence and operational efficiency.


- Develop, optimize, and implement process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and other technical documentation for water treatment projects.


- Design processes for various treatment stages such as coagulation, filtration, reverse osmosis, desalination, disinfection, etc.


- Oversee process simulation, optimization, and troubleshooting to improve the plants overall performance.


- Evaluate and select appropriate treatment technologies, equipment, and processes for each project.


2. Engineering & Technical Leadership:


- Provide leadership in the development of both detailed and basic engineering packages for large-scale water treatment plants.


- Oversee the preparation and validation of process design documentation including material balances, hydraulic calculations, and detailed process designs.


- Collaborate closely with the mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering teams to integrate process design with other engineering disciplines.


- Ensure design compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.


3. Project Management:


- Prepare and manage project timelines, ensuring that process design milestones are met.


- Generate and validate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for equipment, materials, and labor costs associated with water treatment plant projects.


- Coordinate and manage the procurement process for critical equipment and materials for plant construction.


- Monitor the execution of projects to ensure that process design is being adhered to and any deviations are addressed promptly.


4. Costing and Budgeting:


- Lead the cost estimation and BOQ generation process for new projects, ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or performance.


- Identify opportunities for cost reduction in process design without sacrificing performance, reliability, or safety.


- Prepare financial and budgetary reports for senior management and clients, including project forecasts and financial tracking.


5. Client and Stakeholder Coordination:


- Interact with municipal authorities, project clients, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and offer process-based solutions.


- Provide technical presentations and reports to clients, highlighting key aspects of process design and project progress.


- Address client concerns regarding process performance, operational efficiency, and plant Team Management & Development:


- Lead and mentor a team of process engineers, providing technical guidance and career development.


- Collaborate with other department heads to ensure smooth execution of all projects.


- Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture that encourages continuous learning and technical excellence.


Key Skills & Minimum 20-30 years of experience in the water treatment industry, with at least 20 years in process design for larger plants (minimum 50 MLD STP or RO equivalent).


- Extensive experience in process design for municipal, desalination, and reverse osmosis (RO) plants.


- Expertise in handling projects of varying capacities (up to 10 MLD), including the generation of BOQs, detailed and basic engineering packages, and cost estimation.


- Experience working on SWD (Surface Water Discharge) projects and understanding of relevant regulations and standards.


Technical Knowledge:


- Strong technical expertise in designing complex water treatment processes (e.g., STP, RO, desalination).


- Proficient in process simulation software and design tools.


- Knowledge of water treatment chemicals, materials, and equipment.


- Familiarity with environmental and safety standards, codes, and regulations related to water A Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering or related field is required.


Soft Skills:


- Strong leadership and managerial skills with the ability to manage large teams and complex projects.


- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical information to stakeholders.


- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.


Desirable Qualifications:


- Certification in Process Engineering or similar technical certifications.


- Masters degree in Chemical Engineering or related field (preferred but not mandatory).


Working Conditions:


- The position will be based in Chennai, India, with occasional travel to project sites as required.


- The candidate should be comfortable working in both office and site environments, overseeing the execution of design work and implementation at various plant locations.
