UK Payroll Manager

Operational Leadership: Lead and manage the execution of UK Payroll operations for complex UK-based clients. Provide direction and line of sight to overall operational objectives. Support analysis of client processes to promote elimination, standardization, and automation. Serve as the subject matter expert for SLAs for aligned domain/service (i.e., definitions, calculations, targets), as stated in the client contract. Drive operations teams to meet or exceed CSLs, RSLs, KPIs, and other metrics. Oversee achievement of integrated SLAs and ensure non-Payroll & Cloud leaders have a mitigation/recovery plan for missed SLAs. Serve as the subject matter expert for both day-to-day payroll operational activities listed in the Statement of Work for aligned domain/service and contractual terms specific to Global Sourcing. Responsible for Statement of Work-related contract adherence. Communicate scope creep internally and participate in discussions with the client. Demonstrate effective communication, problem-solving, decision-making skills, and handling escalations. Consult with clients on solutions, POV, upcoming releases, cross-client trends, and best practices. Drive transformational ideas and actions and provide consultation to the client on service improvement aspects. Provide oversight for day-to-day delivery of aligned services to the client, across service locations. Execute upon Business Continuity Plan for aligned client(s) during a Business Continuity event. Participate in requirements meetings for new projects. Ensure adherence to audit controls. Manage and proactively participate in SOC/internal audits; respond to questions from auditors. Client Relationship/Governance: Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation and regulations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements. Possess CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) certification. Demonstrate expertise in handling complex payroll scenarios and resolving payroll-related issues. Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing and reporting. Collaborate with clients to understand their payroll needs and provide tailored solutions/practices. Conduct regular audits to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance. Ensure training and support to the payroll team on UK payroll legislation and best practices. Review and report dashboards & metrics to leadership. Submit status updates, metrics, and SLA achievements for monthly governance. Coordinate with other services for escalated issues and dependencies. Ensure root cause analysis is completed and work with clients on recovery efforts. People Management/Resource Planning: Defines accountabilities; creates role portraits and career maps. Creates and maintains succession plans. Conducts monthly one-on-one meetings. As a manager of manager role, act as a role model in managing performance issues. Ensures talent is evenly distributed and roles are calibrated across Client Teams. Identifies high potential colleagues for critical roles and provides coaching/mentoring. Develops, supports, and executes upon overall engagement strategies. Creates an effective working environment focused on colleague development, satisfying work experiences, and accountability for results. Aligns managers and colleagues to firm goals, BU goals, operational goals, and client-specific goals. Executes annual performance reviews and pay recommendations. Assesses talent needed to successfully deliver projects and perform load balancing. Proactively communicates critical resource changes/team changes internally. Assesses and approves/denies hiring requisition requests. Writes and submits requisition requests to the recruiter. Conducts behavioral interviews to ensure the hiring of talented and diverse staff. Financial Management: Manages Domain/portfolio capacity and headcount/compensation planning. Drives effective cost management practices across Domain/Portfolio; drives operational improvements to reduce costs and improve quality. Drives year-over-year cost reductions for operational delivery through various levers like Automation, Robotics, and other optimization opportunities. Manages the accuracy of variable charge calculations and reports the variable charges to respective leaders monthly. Seeks out and acts upon opportunities to expand services for existing clients. Requirements: Education & Skills: Management Graduates Degree, or equivalent degree or work experience required. Familiar with Project Management processes. Possess CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) certification. 7+ years professional experience in consulting or operational environment. 5+ years people management experience, especially at a leveraged-contributor level desired. Ability to work under tight deadlines managing multiple tasks. Ability to understand and analyze the impact of changing priorities and balance resources appropriately. Client consulting and coaching experience using highly developed interpersonal, influence, and relationship skills. Work Conditions: Ability to work on UK shift timings and occasional extended work hours to meet business needs. Mobility across client teams. Willingness to sign a service agreement before every overseas travel/assignment/training. Expectations of a Payroll Leader to Execute UK Payroll Operations: Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation and regulations.
