About the Role :

The Director of Finance will be a core member of the leadership team, responsible for shaping the organization's long-term financial strategy, ensuring robust compliance with NGO financial regulations, and building sustainable funding models. This position requires a visionary finance leader who can balance operational discipline with mission-driven impact, guiding the organization through growth while safeguarding resources.

Key Responsibilities :

1) Strategic Financial Leadership

- Lead the development of the organization's multi-year financial strategy, aligning with conservation goals and programmatic priorities.

- Provide the CEO and Board with regular strategic financial analysis, risk assessments, and scenario planning.

- Champion financial sustainability through innovative funding strategies, including reserves and endowment planning.

2) Governance & Compliance

- Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements, including FCRA, Income Tax Act, CSR, GST

3) EPF, and all applicable NGO laws.

- Oversee annual statutory, donor, and internal audits; manage relationships with auditors and regulators.

- Establish and enforce strong internal controls, fraud prevention measures, and ethical financial practices.

4) Budgeting & Reporting

- Lead the annual budgeting process, integrating programmatic and operational needs.

- Oversee preparation of high-quality donor financial reports, organizational MIS, and Board-level reporting.

- Monitor financial performance against budget, proactively addressing variances.

5) Fund Management & Treasury

- Ensure effective treasury management, maintaining optimal liquidity for operations and field programs.

- Oversee investment of reserves in alignment with Board-approved policies.

- Manage cash flow to ensure timely disbursement to projects without compromising financial stability.

6) Partnership & Donor Engagement

- Collaborate with fundraising and program teams to create donor budgets, financial proposals, and grant reports.

- Engage directly with major donors, institutional funders, and partners to present financial impact and build confidence.

- Ensure transparency and accountability in the use of restricted and unrestricted funds.

7) Team Development & Capacity Building

- Lead, mentor, and build the capacity of the finance team.

- Provide training to program managers and field teams on financial processes, donor compliance, and budget tracking.

- Promote a culture of collaboration, learning, and excellence across finance and operations.

Qualifications & Experience :

- Chartered Accountant (CA) / MBA (Finance) or equivalent qualification.

- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 4 years in a senior leadership role in a mission-driven or NGO environment.

- Experience managing annual budgets of - 20+ crores and multi-donor funding portfolios.

- Strong knowledge of Indian NGO regulatory requirements (FCRA, CSR, GST, etc.).

- Demonstrated success in strategic financial planning, donor reporting, and managing multi-currency budgets.
