Job Title:
Cybersecurity and Information Technology Associate Professor
Job Summary:
The Cybersecurity and Information Technology Associate Professor is responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in cybersecurity, information technology, and related fields. The professor will also engage in research, publishing scholarly work, and contribute to the development of the department's academic programs. Additionally, the professor is expected to mentor students, collaborate with faculty, and participate in service activities within the department and institution.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Curriculum Development:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in cybersecurity, information technology, networking, digital forensics, ethical hacking, and related fields.
- Develop and update course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and exams.
- Stay current with trends, technologies, and research in cybersecurity and IT.
- Incorporate active learning, practical exercises, and real-world examples into coursework.
- Use a variety of teaching methods (lectures, labs, online, and hybrid courses) to accommodate diverse learning styles.
Research and Scholarly Activities:
- Conduct research in the field of cybersecurity and information technology.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and other academic outlets.
- Pursue funded research opportunities from government, industry, or academic sources.
- Supervise and mentor graduate students in their research projects and theses.
- Present research at academic and professional conferences.
Academic Service and Professional Development:
- Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
- Participate in curriculum development and accreditation processes.
- Advise students on academic and career matters.
- Contribute to departmental efforts in program evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Engage in professional development to maintain expertise in cybersecurity and IT.
- Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and industry professionals on projects and initiatives.
Student Mentorship and Advising:
- Provide academic and career guidance to students, especially graduate students.
- Mentor students in internships, research projects, and job placement.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, supporting student success and engagement.
Service to the Community and Profession:
- Engage in outreach and community service activities, promoting cybersecurity awareness and education.
- Participate in professional organizations, conferences, and workshops related to cybersecurity and IT.
- Build partnerships with industry, government, and other academic institutions to enhance research and educational opportunities.
Qualifications:
Education:
- A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field.
- Master’s degree with significant professional experience may be considered in some cases.
Experience:
- A strong record of teaching at the college or university level.
- Extensive professional experience in cybersecurity, information technology, or a related field.
- A proven track record of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals or conferences.
- Experience with securing IT infrastructures, understanding network security protocols, and working with enterprise-level systems.
Skills and Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity principles, policies, and technologies, such as network security, cryptography, ethical hacking, and risk management.
- Familiarity with programming languages, databases, and IT infrastructure management.
- A passion for teaching and helping students develop practical and theoretical knowledge in cybersecurity.
