We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Linux/Unix Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our IT operations team. The SME will play a critical role in managing, maintaining, and optimizing our Linux/Unix infrastructure, ensuring system stability, security, and performance across all environments.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities :

System Administration :

- Oversee and manage the daily operations of Linux/Unix servers in production, staging, and development environments.

- Perform system performance tuning, troubleshooting, patch management, and security audits.

Automation and Scripting :

- Develop automation scripts using Bash, Python, or relevant tools to streamline system processes and configuration management.

- Implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) for environment provisioning using tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.

Incident Management & Troubleshooting :

- Lead incident response efforts for Linux/Unix systems, providing root cause analysis and post-incident reporting.

- Serve as the go-to expert for resolving complex technical issues related to Linux/Unix systems.

System Security :

- Ensure security best practices are implemented, including hardening of servers, vulnerability management, and compliance with industry standards.

- Regularly perform system updates, patching, and monitoring to mitigate risks.

Monitoring & Optimization :

- Monitor system performance, resource usage, and capacity planning, making recommendations for improvement.

- Implement tools for system health checks, monitoring, and alerting.

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing :

- Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.

- Conduct training sessions and mentor team members on Linux/Unix best practices and emerging technologies.

Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams :


- Work closely with DevOps, Security, and Application teams to ensure the smooth operation of services and to implement continuous improvement strategies.

- Participate n system design and architecture discussions for new projects and initiatives.

Key Skills :

- Linux/Unix Expertise : Strong hands-on experience with Linux (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) and Unix systems, including administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.

- Automation and Scripting : Proficiency in Bash, Python, and infrastructure automation tools (i.e., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).

- System Security : Knowledge of server hardening, vulnerability assessments, and security best practices for Linux/Unix environments.

- Monitoring Tools : Familiarity with system monitoring tools like Nagios, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar.

- Incident Management : Ability to handle critical system incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and provide long-term solutions.

- Collaboration : Strong communication skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams and providing mentorship to junior engineers.

Qualifications :

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

- 10+ years of experience in Linux/Unix system administration and troubleshooting.

- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.

- Certification in Linux (RHCSA, RHCE, or equivalent) is preferred.
