engineer job description involves managing, overseeing, and coordinating construction projects on-site to ensure they are completed safely, on time, and within budget, by supervising personnel, verifying work against designs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing technical guidance. Key duties include technical planning, surveying, quality control, budget management, risk mitigation, and liaising with clients, subcontractors, and other construction professionals to achieve project success.  

Key Responsibilities

Project Oversight: Manage and supervise all on-site construction activities, from start to completion, ensuring adherence to design specifications and engineering standards. 

Technical Guidance: Provide technical advice, solve technical difficulties that arise on-site, and interpret technical drawings and specifications. 

Quality Control: Oversee the quality of work and materials, ensuring they meet project specifications and industry standards. 

Safety and Compliance: Enforce health, safety, and sustainability policies and regulations on the construction site, and ensure compliance with building codes. 

Budget and Timeline Management: Manage project budgets, control costs, and ensure the project adheres to the agreed-upon timeline. 

Coordination and Communication: Liaise with clients, subcontractors, architects, quantity surveyors, and other project stakeholders to facilitate smooth operations. 

Reporting: Prepare detailed site reports and document project progress, technical issues, and site activities for stakeholders. 

Surveying and Layout: Perform setting out, leveling, and surveying of construction sites to ensure proper site layout and alignment. 

Core Skills

Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of engineering principles, construction methods, and technical drawings. 

Project Management: Ability to plan, organize, and manage resources efficiently to deliver projects on time and within budget. 

Problem-Solving: Aptitude for diagnosing and resolving technical difficulties and operational issues that may arise during construction. 

Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effectively interacting with various teams and stakeholders. 

Leadership: Ability to guide and supervise construction personnel and manage the site labor force effectively. 

Adaptability: Experience working in various weather conditions on-site and potentially in temporary office environments.
