Key Responsibilities

Strategic Database Architecture:

• Lead the architectural design of highly scalable and available database solutions using Azure Cosmos DB for PostgreSQL.
• Develop and evangelize best practices for data modeling, sharding, and partitioning strategies to optimize for both transactional (OLTP) and analytical (OLAP) workloads.
• Evaluate and recommend the optimal cluster configuration, including node count, SKU, and scaling policies, to meet performance and cost-effectiveness goals.

Advanced Performance Optimization:

• Conduct in-depth performance analysis and tuning of complex SQL queries, database configurations, and distributed table structures.
• Utilize advanced monitoring tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, pg_stat_statements) to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks at the cluster, node, and query level.
• Mentor junior team members on advanced query optimization techniques and distributed database principles.

High Availability and Disaster Recovery:

• Design, implement, and test robust high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) strategies for production clusters.
• Automate backup, restore, and failover processes to ensure business continuity and meet strict RTO/RPO objectives.
• Provide expert guidance on replication strategies and data consistency models in a distributed environment.

Operational Excellence and Automation:

• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts (e.g., Terraform, ARM templates) to automate the provisioning, scaling, and management of database clusters.
• Implement advanced monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions to ensure the proactive management of database health.
• Lead the adoption of DevOps and CI/CD practices for database schema changes and deployments.

Security and Compliance Leadership:

• Define and enforce comprehensive database security policies, including encryption, access control, and network security (e.g., Azure Private Link).
• Ensure all database solutions meet regulatory and corporate compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
• Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments to maintain a secure database environment.

Mentorship and Collaboration:

• Serve as the subject matter expert on Azure Cosmos DB for PostgreSQL, providing technical leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams, including developers, solutions architects, and system administrators.
• Lead design and code reviews, and help define technical standards and best practices for the entire organization.

• Compute & Serverless: Lambda, Batch, API Gateway, Step Functions
• Storage & Databases: Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake, Cosmos DB
• DevOps & Automation: Terraform
• Security & Identity: Azure Active Directory, Entra
• Monitoring: Azure Monitor
• Networking: Azure VNET
• Good understanding of microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash) and familiarity with tools like Git.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Azure Certification(s) such as Azure Certified Solutions Architect, Developer, or SysOps Admin.
• Experience working in agile/scrum environments.
• Exposure to AI/ML services is a plus.
