QC Piping Inspector Job Description


A QC (Quality Control) Piping Inspector ensures that piping systems meet specified quality and safety standards during fabrication, installation, and maintenance. Below is a typical job description:

Responsibilities:


1. Inspection and Testing:


Perform visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing (NDT) of piping systems and components.


Verify material specifications, heat numbers, and proper welding processes.


Ensure proper alignment, fit-up, and welding standards per project specifications.




2. Documentation:


Review and maintain inspection records, test reports, and material traceability documents.


Ensure proper documentation of inspection findings and communicate any deviations.




3. Compliance:


Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards (e.g., ASME, API, or ANSI), and client specifications.


Verify that piping installations comply with isometric drawings and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).




4. Supervision and Coordination:


Coordinate with welding inspectors, contractors, and engineering teams to resolve quality issues.


Witness pressure tests (hydrostatic, pneumatic) and verify testing procedures and results.




5. Problem-Solving:


Identify and report defects or non-conformances and recommend corrective actions.


Monitor implementation of corrective actions to ensure resolution of issues.




6. Safety Compliance:


Ensure adherence to safety protocols during inspection activities.


Report any unsafe practices or conditions during piping operations.



Qualifications:


Education: Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.


Certifications:


Certification in NDT techniques (e.g., UT, RT, MT, PT).


API 570 (Piping Inspection) or equivalent certification is preferred.


Knowledge of welding codes (AWS, ASME IX) and standards.
