The Executive Director of Catholic Education Western Australia Limited (CEWA) invites applications for the Principalship role at Kururrungku Catholic Education Centre in Billiluna commencing 1 January 2026. 

School Profile

Kururrungku Catholic Education Centre is located in the Billiluna Aboriginal Community on Billiluna Station, approximately 180 kilometres south of Halls Creek. The school caters for 50–60 students from Kindergarten to Year 10, providing a holistic education that nurtures mind, body and spirit through faith, culture and the love of God.

Students are supported to develop resilience, self-knowledge and confidence through programs, inclusive also of strong family partnerships, and trauma-informed practices. At Kururrungku, First Nations traditions and Catholic teachings are honoured, reflecting a two-way learning approach that values culture while fostering academic growth. The curriculum celebrates local heritage while teaching Standard Australian English, enabling students to embrace their identity and thrive in their learning.

Catholic Identity

Demonstrated ability to lead a Catholic school community in the spirit of the Mercy tradition, authentically witnessing to faith while integrating Catholic teachings with local First Nations spirituality, traditions and cultural practices. Capacity to foster a faith-filled environment where Religious Education, prayer and liturgy are central, and where the significance of the Dreaming, sacred sites, and the Two Wallaby (Kururrungku) story are respected and celebrated.

Education

Proven ability to lead high-quality teaching and learning that responds to the needs of each child, with particular strength in supporting Teacher and First Nations Teacher Assistant partnerships and inclusive, culturally responsive pedagogy. Commitment to preparing students for ongoing educational pathways, particularly transition to boarding schools beyond Year 10.

Community

A compassionate, open minded, approachable leader with the desire to listen, learn, consult and form strong respectful working relationships with students, staff, families and community members in order to drive school improvement Commitment to investing in and being an active presence within the school and community, nurturing partnerships that strengthen family involvement and cultural continuity in education.

Stewardship

Demonstrates the ability to effectively steward resources and facilities within a remote East Kimberley context, ensuring sustainable practices that support the wellbeing and growth of the school community. An excellent practitioner of engaging, contextual, and personalised learning in a remote Indigenous context, with the capacity to lead, inspire, and develop the professional capabilities of staff through resourceful and innovative approaches.

Selection Criteria:

Practising Catholic and experienced educator committed to Catholic Education. Accredited for Leadership of a Catholic School Community or equivalent. A collaborative and future-focused leader who understands and supports the strategic priorities of the broader Catholic Education system.  A relevant Master’s degree (or working towards completion) with the ability to apply advanced leadership and management principles to both the day-to-day and long-term leadership of a school is highly desirable. Current Teachers Registration for Western Australia (TRBWA). Current WA Working with Children Check (WA WWCC).
