Purpose

  • As a performance engineer, your job is to solve larger problems and translate vague problems into set of actionable items.
  • The performance engineer is responsible to understand the performance requirements and assess / monitor / test solutions during software development lifecycle to ensure that the requirements are met.
  • The Performance Engineer will work with Product Owners, Architects, designers, engineering and testing scrum team to Assess requirements, review designs, plan and strategize continuous performance testing solutions to deliver performant and / or mature service capability.

Essential capabilities

  • Experience in technology start up scenarios, think like a startup engineer, working in a lean way.
  • Engineer with Java/Microservice background, who worked on optimising performance of high volume, time critical real-time systems and can help the engineering teams to optimise the performance of Microservices based solutions
  • Understand the infrastructure landscape in multi-cloud environments and can do performance tuning preserving the resilience of design.
  • Can translate NFR ( performance, Availability , security etc) requirements and help design solutions working with other architects and designers.
  • Having experience of working in payments and STP applications and designed vertical and horizontal scaling solutions
  • Have good exposure on performance testing tools and can coordinate with performance testing team and help them as needed
  • Proven capability to analyse logging and monitoring data to identify performance issues and use relevant tools for problem-solving and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge and experience with Performance testing, logging, and monitoring tools, test automation in cloud.
  • Strong Commitment to quality and details.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Strong focus on modern performance Engineering practises
  • Being Frugal in approaches to delivery
  • Mentorship

Desired Experience and skills

  • 14+ years of technology experience.
  • 10+ years in application performance engineering and or testing roles.
  • Technical domain experience (e.g., SME technology or Tools)
  • Expert in Cloud native performance Engineering.
  • Deep understanding of Logging and analytics tools like Splunk(preferred), Datadog, Dynatrace, Logstash etc.
  • Expert in APM tools like AppDynamics, CA APM, CloudWatch etc.
  • Excellent understanding of microservice architecture patterns and cloud architecture aspects.
  • Knowledge of performance testing and scripting automated performance tests using tools like LoadRunner, JMeter etc.

Qualification Requirements

Tertiary qualification in technology related degree

Key Decisions

  • Promote and improve maturity of performance engineering practices across the business.
  • Ensuring the solutions to the organization’s transformation journey are as optimized as possible.
  • Providing technical support and guidance regarding performance, elastic scale, security availability, cloud multi-tenancy and DevOps Implementation, resolving, mitigating and preventing critical incidents

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the overall technology needs of the service teams along through management of technology processes, platforms, priorities, and third party providers.
  • Major contribution to technology strategy for innovative solutions approved by Executive.
  • Often involved in technology/business project outside their immediate areas of responsibility.
  • Act as area representative in group wide initiatives.
  • Responsible for technology fit-gap assessment of demand into service teams and active participant of backlog grooming.
  • Responsible for direction setting and technology roadmap definition in line with unit’s technology performance strategy
  • Technical direction and review of Performance Engineering practice for the service Teams.
