Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced COBOL Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate with our leadership team and external advisors from leading tech firms to modernize our COBOL-based solutions, ensuring that they remain robust, scalable, and efficient. You will play a crucial role in maintaining and upgrading our platform, ensuring that our clients continue to receive the best service possible.

Key Responsibilities:

Systems Maintenance and Development:

- Maintain and enhance COBOL applications, ensuring performance and security.

- Participate in the modernization of COBOL-based systems, integrating with newer technologies.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, architecture, and data teams, to drive system improvements.

Collaboration and Quality Assurance:

- Partner with our leadership team on architectural design, ensuring the scalability of COBOL applications in a modern environment.

- Conduct thorough code reviews, testing, and debugging to maintain code quality.

- Engage in collaborative practices such as pair programming and team problem-solving.

Customer Focus and Solution Delivery:

- Translate client needs into efficient COBOL solutions, ensuring that legacy systems continue to meet modern requirements.

- Work closely with customers and partners to deliver high-quality solutions and provide ongoing support.

Performance Metrics and Continuous Improvement:

- Track and measure system performance, identifying areas for optimization and improvement.

- Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure that COBOL solutions meet performance benchmarks and align with business goals.

Qualifications:

- Proven experience as a COBOL Engineer or similar role.

- Strong knowledge of COBOL programming and experience with legacy system maintenance.

- Familiarity with integration between COBOL and modern technologies, such as cloud platforms and databases.

- Expertise in debugging, testing, and ensuring the reliability of COBOL applications.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Preferred:

- Experience in modernizing COBOL systems, integrating with cloud platforms or microservices.

- Experience with iSeries, Unisys, and/or other mainframe technologies.

- Experience with mainframe development languages such as Cobol.

- Experience with C programming, source management tools including GIT or similar tools.

- Agile and/or DevOps experience.

- Knowledgeable in industry standard software design patterns, development, data modelling, and SOLID principals.

- Knowledgeable in test driven development (TDD) and automated functional testing including tools like UFT, Postman, and Selenium.

-Familiarity with enterprise-level systems, including banking or financial applications.

- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
