The Opportunity :

We are seeking an innovative and highly skilled Data Scientist - R&D to join our forward-thinking Research & Development team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to explore, design, and implement advanced machine learning models, with a particular focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs), to solve complex problems within the financial domain. You will be instrumental in driving our data-driven initiatives, from data collection and processing to model deployment and optimization.

Job Description :

As a Data Scientist in R&D, you will be responsible for applying your expertise in machine learning, statistics, and programming to extract actionable insights from vast datasets. You will play a critical role in the entire lifecycle of R&D projects, contributing to the development of state-of-the-art predictive and analytical models that enhance our offerings.

Key Responsibilities :

Machine Learning Model Development :

- Design, build, and deploy sophisticated machine learning models using best-in-class ML technologies to address complex R&D challenges.

- Develop and implement algorithms, with a strong emphasis on Large Language Models (LLMs) and advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, for tasks such as text classification, sentiment analysis, entity recognition, and information extraction.

- Continuously train and fine-tune existing or newly developed models with new and modified training datasets to improve performance, accuracy, and robustness.

- Rigorously select features, build, and optimize classifiers using a variety of machine learning techniques.

Data Mining & Analysis :

- Perform advanced data mining using state-of-the-art methods to uncover hidden patterns, trends, and correlations within complex datasets.

- Take ownership of processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of raw data used for analysis and model training, ensuring high data quality.

- Enhance existing data collection procedures and propose new strategies to include relevant information for building robust analytical systems.

Statistical Analysis & Validation :

- Apply strong applied statistics skills, including understanding of distributions, statistical testing, regression analysis, and hypothesis testing, to validate model performance and interpret results.

Research & Innovation :

- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and LLMs, proactively researching and evaluating new methodologies and tools.

- Contribute to the research agenda of the R&D team, proposing innovative solutions and proof-of-concept projects.

Collaboration & Communication :

- Collaborate effectively with fellow data scientists, engineers, and domain experts to understand project requirements and integrate developed models into production systems.

- Clearly articulate findings, methodologies, and model limitations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desired Skills and Experience :

Experience : 6 to 9 years of professional experience as a Machine Learning Researcher or Data Scientist, with a proven track record of developing and deploying ML solutions.

Education : Masters degree or Ph.D. (preferable) in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.

Machine Learning Expertise :

- Excellent understanding of a wide range of machine learning techniques and algorithms (e.g., supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning, ensemble methods, deep learning).

- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), including pre-trained models, fine-tuning, and prompt engineering.

- Strong practical experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques and libraries (e.g., spaCy, NLTK, Hugging Face Transformers).

Statistical Skills :

- Good, applied statistics skills, including proficiency in distributions, statistical testing, regression analysis, Bayesian inference, and hypothesis testing.

Programming & Scripting :

- Excellent scripting and programming skills in Python, including experience with relevant data science libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib).

Database Knowledge :

- Basic understanding of NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB or Cassandra, for data retrieval and storage.

Problem-Solving :

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail and the ability to work with complex, unstructured datasets.

Continuous Learning :

- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest research and advancements in the field of AI and Data Science.

Key Metrics :

- Building and optimizing high-performance ML models.

- Successful training and fine-tuning of models leading to improved accuracy and efficiency.

- Effectiveness in selecting features and optimizing classifiers.
