Job description

We are seeking a candidate with strong workflow or digital decisioning design and implementation experience for the role of UW Rules Digital Decisioning Architect in Swiss Re Life & Health Solutions. You will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and overseeing the technical solutions and providing guidance to the developers and testers to address specific business problems or requirements working on automated insurance solutions across underwriting and claims.

As a Digital Decisioning Architect, you will be responsible for translating business requirements into technical designs and creating integrated solutions to support complex B2C interactions. You will be designing complex workflows to support on-line interviews to assess various types of underwriting risk across a global platform. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including business analysts, business architect, project owners/managers, and developers, to ensure that the proposed solutions align with the organization's overall objectives and strategy.

The main responsibilities include: -

  • Rules Design: Design rules that meet client's requirements while considering factors such as scalability, re-use and performance. This involves creating design rule architecture, identifying best practices and supporting developers.
  • Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership, training, and guidance to development teams throughout the project lifecycle. Help teams make informed decisions by providing expertise on architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and challenges associated with the proposed solutions. Mitigate risks by implementing appropriate controls and contingency plans. Regular reviews of the rule base to ensure rules development follows best practices and are correctly built.
  • Standards and Governance: Define and enforce rule- build/coding standards, architectural guidelines, and best practices of rule development. Ensure compliance with industry standards (wherever applicable) and regulatory requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in the field of IT architecture. Identify opportunities for process improvements, system enhancement and innovation within the team.
  • Technical expertise: Maintain high standards of UW rules quality within the team by championing good practices.
  • Collaborating with Stakeholder and technical experts: Collaborate with stakeholder and technical experts on architecture side to improve overall product and enhance, explore designs for enhancing decision-making processes within digital systems, ensuring they align with organizational goals and must-wins.

This is a full-time role.

About you
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Overall experience> 10 years and Proven experience (>5 years) working developing workflow or decisioning solutions or in a similar role within the IT industry.
  • Direct insurance or reinsurance (Life and Health) experience is beneficial.
  • Experience working with automated underwriting systems (AUS), automated UW rule development is highly preferred.
  • Strong Understanding of Java/JavaScript is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Business Analysis tools or Process Engineering including RPA is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Influencing skills and the capability to persuade without causing conflict.
  • Well-developed decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to build rapport & maintain positive relationships with the team, market underwriters and other important partners.
  • Ability to work to defined processes and guidelines.
  • Motivated by working to deadlines and delivery of key targets (KPIs)
  • Willing to learn, up-skill and have a drive for professional development.
  • Should be able to perform in high pressure environment independently or with minimal support.
