Meet Our Team:
The Commerce group falls under the Core & Data division within WBD's Global Tech arm. Our services encompass all components of monetizing our streaming services. This includes overseeing products, pricing, and promotions; marketing subscriptions and pay-per-view events; collaborating with third-party providers for global and local payment methods; managing taxes, fraud, financial reporting, and much more. We deliver the backend APIs that fuel all our clients, and our teams lead the way in designing, constructing, maintaining, deploying, and operating our services. The group is currently situated in the US, Sweden, and Poland, and is now extending its presence in India.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Has a proven track record of developing multiple high-performance, stable, scalable systems that have been successfully deployed to customers in production.
- Drives best practices and defines standards for the team.
- Plays a crucial role in the team's strategy and makes significant contributions to team planning.
- Demonstrates good judgment in balancing immediate and long-term business requirements.
- Is a results-oriented creative thinker who fosters innovation and delivers exceptional experiences for our customers.
- Advocates for data-driven decision-making, exhibits a strong curiosity, and thrives on devising inventive solutions to tackle challenging issues.

- Acts as a collaborative leader who enhances the productivity of fellow engineers and team members by sharing knowledge and assisting in making key technical decisions.
- Takes a lead role in conceptualizing and executing major functional enhancements to existing software systems, or new ones, engaging with oneself and other engineers.
- Holds sway over the team's strategy and contributes significantly to team planning.
- Demonstrates sound judgment in weighing immediate and long-term business needs.
- Diagnoses a production issue by reviewing source code, logs, operational metrics, stack trace, etc. to identify a specific problem and resolve it. Pinpoints root causes and gleans insights to enhance both development processes and system design.
- Offers insights on design, coding, and operational best practices.
- Initiates the creation of best practices proactively in the absence of any.
- Makes impactful decisions that dictate how and what software is developed.
- Mentors junior engineers, overseeing their designs, ensuring code quality, and integrating them into the team.
- Your success is measured not only by your own productivity but also by the positive influence you have on the engineers in your vicinity.
What to Bring:
- Proficient in Java/Golang or other JVM languages with 2-5 years of experience.
- Expertise and profound understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
- Advanced comprehension of challenges in distributed systems, micro-service-based architectures, and asynchronous communication (e.g. using gRPC and Kafka).
- Ability to implement alerting, metrics, and logging through tools like Prometheus, CloudWatch, Kibana, PagerDuty.
- Hands-on experience with persistence and caching solutions such as PostgreSQL, Redis, ElasticSearch, Caffeine.
- Well-versed in asynchronous, non-blocking, functional/reactive programming styles. Practical experience with frameworks such as Spring WebFlux, Vert.x.
