Role Summary
The Senior (Sr.) Software Technical Writer works closely with members of all engineering teams to identify product and technical requirements for documentation deliverables for various customer tools and applications.
The writer defines and creates printed and online documentation.The successful candidate must be able to assimilate highly technical information quickly and create clear conceptual, procedural, reference, and troubleshooting information under aggressive project schedules.
The Senior Software Technical Writer must also be able to identify continuous improvement opportunities for the technical writing process.Responsibilities
Write a variety of technical documentation for a wide range of uses, including release notes, procedures, software administrator guides, user guides, and manuals.
Organize writing projects and interface productively with subject matter experts, graphic illustrators, editors, other writers, and management to move projects forward.
Work with the project team and/or customer to capture information to write documents.Provide clear explanation of complex concepts and applications.
Collaborate with product development, operations services, customers, and other department teams to gain an understanding of the desired outcomes.
Analyze requirements of each project to determine types of publications needed.
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the technical documentation based on the project and customer requirements.
Learn functionality of software with minimal explanation.
Fix errors with XML code.
Manage the production process from start to finish of how authoring requests of received, processed, and delivered.
Comply with the requirements of the Quality Management System and Information Security Management System.
Utilize their experience in helping other writers on the team.
Competency
Experience interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience using accepted style manuals.
Must be self-directed with the ability to form opinions and technically sound conclusions.
Must be organized, with a high standard of accuracy and efficiency; attention to detail and the flexibility to adapt to constantly shifting priorities.
Experience with Simplified English is a plus.Knowledge of the aerospace industry helpful.
Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with supervisor on all activities within the areas of responsibility.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and deliver to aggressive project schedules.
Requirements
Education/Experience
Four year minimum of technical writing or communications experience preferred.
Experience working in Agile scrum teams preferred.
Computer Skills
Strong proficiency in XML editors, graphic editors, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Acrobat.
Experience with structured XML data, such as DITA XML.
Experience with programming and style sheet development a plus.
Miscellaneous
Oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and superior organizational abilities.
Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, and work in a team environment.
