Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Lead Database Administrator/Developer with deep expertise in DB2 databases and proven experience in migrating on-premises databases to AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL. The ideal candidate will play a key role in modernizing our database infrastructure, leading large-scale migrations, and ensuring data integrity, performance, and scalability throughout the process.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in database development and management.
  • Strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2 database architecture and administration.
  • Proven experience in migrating DB2 databases to AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Expertise in PostgreSQL development, including stored procedures, functions, indexing, and performance tuning.
  • Proficient in ETL tools, data transformation, and scripting languages (Python, Shell, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as DMS (Database Migration Service), Schema Conversion Tool, RDS, and Aurora.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, normalization, and database optimization techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.


A DB Lead (Database Lead) is a senior technical role responsible for overseeing all aspects of an organisation’s database architecture, operations, performance, and strategy.

1. Database Architecture & Design

  • Define database models, schemas, and structures for applications.
  • Ensure designs meet scalability, performance, and security requirements.
  • Evaluate and choose the right database technologies.

2. Performance & Optimisation

  • Monitor system performance (queries, indexes, workloads).
  • Optimise queries, indexing strategies, and storage.
  • Ensure high availability and low latency.


3. Database Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee backups, restores, patching, replication, failover strategies.
  • Ensure disaster recovery plans are in place and tested.
  • Manage data migrations and upgrades.

4. Data Governance & Security

  • Implement access control, encryption, and compliance standards.
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and auditability.

5. Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead a team of DBAs (Database Administrators), data engineers, or developers.
  • Work with application architects, project managers, and other technical leads.
  • Communicate risks, design decisions, and strategies to stakeholders.

6. Cloud & Modernisation

  • Especially in modern IT environments:
  • Manage cloud database services.
  • Plan and lead database modernisation efforts (e.g., migrating from on-prem to cloud).
  • Oversee adoption of managed services, automation, and IaC (Infrastructure as Code).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS Certification (e.g., AWS Certified Database – Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect).
  • Experience with CI/CD practices and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
