Job Title: Professor – AnaesthesiaLocation: Jamshedpur, JharkhandReporting To: Dean, Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC)Department: AnaesthesiologyInstitution Type: Medical College (MTMC, Jamshedpur)Job Purpose:To lead the Department of Anaesthesiology, deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, conduct cutting-edge research, provide clinical supervision in operation theatres and critical care, and ensure compliance with NMC norms for medical education while advancing patient safety and academic excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Curriculum DeliveryDeliver lectures, seminars, and practical training sessions for MBBS, MD Anaesthesiology, and allied health students as per NMC curriculum guidelines.Supervise postgraduate residents in clinical rotations, thesis guidance, and skill-based training in anaesthesia techniques and critical care management.Develop and update anaesthesia curriculum incorporating simulation-based learning and latest evidence-based practices.Clinical & Patient Care OversightProvide expert anaesthesia services in operation theatres, ICUs, and emergency settings at affiliated hospitals, ensuring patient safety protocols.Lead multidisciplinary teams for complex cases including transplant anaesthesiology, neuroanaesthesia, and obstetric anaesthesia.Implement quality improvement initiatives for perioperative care and adverse event reporting systems.Research & PublicationsLead research projects in anaesthesiology with focus on clinical trials, pain management, and critical care outcomes; secure grants from ICMR/DBT.Publish minimum 2 PubMed-indexed papers annually as per NMC norms for Professor cadre, mentor residents for publications.Organize CMEs, workshops, and journal clubs to promote research culture in the department.Departmental Leadership & NMC ComplianceManage departmental operations including faculty recruitment, equipment procurement, and OT scheduling in coordination with Dean MTMC.Ensure compliance with NMC teacher-student ratio, logbook maintenance, and accreditation standards for MD Anaesthesiology program.Mentor junior faculty for promotions and contribute to institutional NAAC/NMC assessments.Student Assessment & Institutional CollaborationConduct formative and summative assessments including OSCEs, viva voce, and clinical evaluations for UG/PG students.Collaborate with Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Obstetrics departments for integrated perioperative training programs.Participate in hospital infection control committees and disaster management drills.Must-Have SkillsAdvanced clinical proficiency in general, regional, and critical care anaesthesia with hands-on experience in high-volume OT settings.Proven teaching expertise demonstrated through student feedback, thesis supervision, and curriculum delivery per NMC guidelines.Research track record with 10+ PubMed-indexed publications and grant management experience.Nice-to-Have SkillsFellowship/PDCC in subspecialties like cardiac, neuro, or paediatric anaesthesia.Experience with simulation-based training, ultrasound-guided blocks, and perioperative quality metrics.Leadership in academic committees, journal editing, or international conference presentations.Qualifications and SkillsMD/DNB Anaesthesiology from MCI/NMC-recognized institution; additional qualifications like PDCC/Fellowship preferred.Minimum 3 years as Associate Professor in Anaesthesiology with 2+ PubMed-indexed publications as first/corresponding author per NMC norms during tenure as Associate ProfessorStrong clinical expertise in advanced anaesthesia techniques, critical care, and regional blocks.Proficiency in teaching tools, simulation software, and MS Office/PowerPoint for academic presentations.Preferred AttributesDemonstrated leadership in academic medical institutions, preferably in healthcare education sector.Excellent communication skills for teaching, patient counselling, and interdisciplinary collaboration.Commitment to ethical practice, research innovation, and student-centric education.Willingness to contribute to 24/7 clinical duties and institutional growth at MTMC Jamshedpur.Opportunities for GrowthProgression to HoD Anaesthesiology and Dean's Council membership within 3-5 years based on performance.Leadership roles in Manipal Education Group research initiatives and international collaborations.Faculty development programs, PhD supervision opportunities, and sabbaticals for advanced training abroad.
