Data Protection Engineer

Job Overview:CLOSELY WORK WITH BACKUP TEAM AND FUNCTIONAL STAKEHOLDERS TO MANAGE DISASTER RECOVERYThe Technology Specialist applies their conceptual knowledge of Technology and with a moderate level of guidance and direction from colleagues and leadership, is responsible for solving a range of straightforward Technology problems. They will be responsible for analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures, as well as building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers. The Technology Specialist understands key business drivers and applies this knowledge to solve problems in straightforward situations through analysis of possible solutions using technical experience, judgment, and precedents.Key Tasks and Responsibilities: Lead the design and deployment of Rubrik backup and recovery solutions across on-prem, cloud (Azure/AWS), and hybrid environmentsDefine long-term data protection strategies aligned with business continuity and compliance requirementsEvaluate and recommend enhancements to existing backup architectures to improve scalability, performance, and cost-efficiencyConfigure Rubrik clusters, SLA domains, replication policies, archival targets, and retention settingsManage daily backup operations, monitor job health, and proactively resolve failures or performance bottlenecksEnsure seamless protection of VMware virtual machines, databases (SQL, Oracle), NetApp NAS shares, M365 cloud-native workloads and Azure machinesDesign and implement scripts to automate Rubrik backup, restore, and reporting workflowsBuild custom workflows for policy enforcement, compliance checks, and alertingUtilize Rubrik REST APIs and SDKs to integrate with external platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, monitoring tools, Azure, AWS)Develop automation for hybrid cloud backup operationsUtilize GraphQL for Rubrik automationTroubleshoot and optimize existing scripts for performance and reliabilityMaintain detailed documentation of scripts, workflows, and processesEnsure adherence to security and least privilege principlesImplement and manage Rubrik DSPM to continuously assess and improve the security posture of sensitive data across environmentsIdentify and classify sensitive data (e.g., PII, PHI, financial records) using Rubrik’s data discovery capabilitiesMonitor data exposure risks and enforce policies to reduce attack surfaces and ensure compliance with regulations like GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI-DSSLeverage Rubrik’s Data Threat Analytics to detect anomalies, ransomware indicators, and unauthorized access patternsAnalyze threat intelligence reports and correlate findings with backup data to identify potential breachesCollaborate with cybersecurity teams to respond to threats and initiate recovery workflowsImplement encryption, role-based access controls, and immutability features to safeguard data against ransomware and unauthorized accessParticipate in internal and external audits, providing evidence of backup compliance and recovery capabilitiesDesign and test disaster recovery plans using Rubrik’s Live Mount, Instant Recovery, and CloudOut featuresConduct regular DR drills and simulate failover scenarios to validate recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs)Collaborate with business units to prioritize critical workloads and define recovery tiersMaintain comprehensive documentation of backup configurations, recovery procedures, and change logsStay current with Rubrik product updates, industry trends, and emerging technologies in data protectionEssential Qualifications and Education: 6+ years of experience in rubrik backup toolDegree in engineering, computer science or related fieldRubrik certified system engineer (rcse) certificationPreferred Qualifications and Education: Deep understanding of rubrik architecture, including sla domains, replication, archival, and live mount capabilitiesHands on experience on configuring & managing backups of various os system, oracle db, sql db, netapp volumes, sybase servers, o365 servicesProven experience with rubrik dspm (data security posture management) and data threat analyticsStrong knowledge of virtualization platforms (vmware vsphere, microsoft hyper-v)Experience with cloud platforms (azure, aws), including cloud-native backup strategies and integrationsStrong proficiency in powershell and python scriptingHands-on experience with rubrik apis (rest api, sdks)Solid understanding of rubik backup and recovery concepts in enterprise and hybrid cloud environmentsFamiliarity with json, yaml, and api authentication (oauth, tokens)Experience with automation frameworks and ci/cd pipelines is a plusFamiliarity with data classification frameworks and sensitive data discoveryExperience implementing backup solutions that meet compliance standards such as gdpr, hipaa, pci-dss, and iso 27001Understanding of encryption, immutability, and role-based access controls in backup environmentsDemonstrated ability to design and execute dr plans using rubrik’s recovery featuresExperience conducting dr drills and validating rto/rpo metricsAbout UsOur ingenuity fuels daily life.
