We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to design, implement, and manage PostgreSQL environments for UAT, Production, and Disaster Recovery (DR). The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in High Availability (HA), replication, backup & recovery, security, monitoring, and disaster recovery strategies. The role also involves creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), comprehensive documentation, and knowledge transfer to internal teams.


Key Responsibilities

1. Database Design & Implementation

  • Architect and implement PostgreSQL database environments for UAT, Production, and DR.
  • Ensure optimal performance, scalability, and reliability of database instances.
  • Configure database parameters, schemas, and storage as per project requirements.

2. High Availability & Disaster Recovery

  • Set up High Availability (HA) configuration with manual failover.
  • Implement Disaster Recovery (DR) setup with replication.
  • Conduct periodic DR drills to validate recovery procedures and failover readiness.

3. Backup & Recovery Strategy

  • Develop and implement a robust backup strategy (physical/logical backups).
  • Configure automated backup scheduling and retention policies.
  • Test and validate recovery processes to ensure data integrity and minimal downtime.

4. Security, Monitoring & Auditing

  • Implement role-based access control, database encryption, and secure authentication methods.
  • Set up monitoring tools for performance, replication lag, and availability tracking.
  • Configure auditing mechanisms to meet compliance and regulatory requirements.

5. Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

  • Prepare comprehensive documentation of PostgreSQL configurations, procedures, and maintenance tasks.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for operational use.
  • Conduct training sessions and handover knowledge to the operations/support team.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of PostgreSQL DBA experience, with proven expertise in HA, replication, and DR.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • PostgreSQL installation, configuration, and optimization.
  • HA setup using tools like Patroni, repmgr, pgPool-II, or similar.
  • DR replication strategies (streaming replication, logical replication).
  • Backup tools (pgBackRest, Barman, or custom scripts).
  • Security hardening, SSL/TLS encryption, and role-based access control.
  • Monitoring tools (pgAdmin, Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent).
  • Soft Skills: Strong documentation skills, team collaboration, and ability to train technical staff.
