Position – Food Safety Officer (FSO)


Role overview:

Dayananda Sagar University invites applications from qualified, experienced and committed professionals for the position of Food Safety Officer (FSO) to ensure compliance with food safety standards across the University campus, hostels, canteens and other food service facilities.


Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with FSSAI guidelines and applicable food safety laws and regulations across all University food outlets and facilities.
  • Conduct regular hygiene audits, inspections and documentation of food safety practices.
  • Identify non‑conformities and initiate corrective actions, including coordination with concerned departments/vendors.
  • Coordinate with statutory bodies and external agencies as required for food safety compliance.
  • Implement and monitor Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) including internal/external audits.


Educational qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Technology / Food Science / Nutrition / Microbiology / Hotel Management / Public Health or an equivalent discipline.
  • Master’s Degree in the same or a related discipline will be an added advantage.


Certifications (mandatory and desirable):

  • Mandatory: FoSTaC (Food Safety Training and Certification) – FSSAI.
  • Mandatory: FSSAI Food Safety (FSO) Certification (as per FSSAI norms).
  • Desirable:
  • HACCP (Certification) / ISO 22000: Food Safety Management Systems.
  • Internal/Lead Auditor in Food Safety / Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) / Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or equivalent certifications recognized by FSSAI.


Experience and skills:

  • Strong knowledge of food laws and regulations, FSSAI standards and guidelines.
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in food safety, audits, compliance and inspections; experience in universities/institutions/hospitality/large food service operations preferred.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to train and sensitize staff and food handlers on food safety and hygiene practices.
