Role Overview:

We are seeking a Database Engineering Lead with deep expertise in YugabyteDB and distributed database systems to define and execute our distributed data strategy. The ideal candidate will lead the architecture, deployment, and optimization of large-scale database environments while mentoring a team of specialists and ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the YugabyteDB and distributed database team, setting the technical vision and execution roadmap.
• Oversee design, deployment, scaling, and performance tuning of large distributed database clusters.
• Define and enforce standards, best practices, and operational frameworks for data systems.
• Collaborate with application and enterprise architects to integrate database solutions across business applications.
• Drive high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and operational excellence across environments.
• Mentor and guide database engineers and specialists, building technical depth within the team.
• Partner with DevOps, SRE, and infrastructure teams to automate deployments, monitoring, and upgrades.
• Develop and own the data architecture roadmap, ensuring scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 10+ years of experience in database engineering, architecture, or platform leadership roles.
• Proven hands-on expertise with YugabyteDB or equivalent distributed SQL systems (e.g., CockroachDB, Google Spanner).
• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts — replication, sharding, consistency models, and fault tolerance.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience in managing technical teams.
• Deep knowledge of performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and Kubernetes-based deployments.
• Strategic and operational mindset with strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Nice to Have:

• Experience managing multi-region or hybrid cloud database architectures.
• Familiarity with data observability, governance, and security frameworks.
• Contributions to open-source projects or distributed database communities.
