Position Name: OSS L2 Support Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled OSS Engineer with a strong passion for automation and data analytics to join our Operations Support Systems team. This role will be instrumental in driving end-to-end efficiency, reducing manual effort, and strategically improving our FCAPS (Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, Security) processes across the entire network infrastructure. The successful candidate will leverage their technical expertise to develop automation solutions, analyse operational data, and drive process improvements that deliver measurable business benefits and enhance overall service quality and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Automation Development & Implementation:
- Develop robust scripts and automation solutions using various tools and programming languages to streamline operational tasks across all network domains. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Automating data copy-paste operations.
- Web data scraping for operational insights.
- Automated calculations and data processing.
- File manipulation (opening, moving, parsing).
- Email parsing for automated triggers or data extraction.
- Automated login and interaction with Network Elements (NE), Operations Support Systems (OSS), Element Management Systems (EMS), and Network Management Systems (NMS).
- Connecting to and extracting data from APIs.
- Parsing and extracting insights from unstructured data sources.
- Prepare and maintain RMOP (Runbook/Method of Procedure) based automation, ensuring these automated processes are well-documented and reliable.
End-to-End FCAPS Improvement:
- Strategically improve Fault Management processes through automated detection, correlation, and initial troubleshooting.
- Enhance Configuration Management by automating configuration audits, deployments, and compliance checks.
- Optimize Accounting/Billing data collection and processing through automation.
- Improve Performance Management by automating data collection, analysis, anomaly detection, and reporting across various network domains.
- Contribute to Security Management by automating security checks, vulnerability scanning result processing, and incident response initial steps.
- Analyse existing RMOPs and operational workflows across all network domains for improvement and enhancement, specifically targeting manual effort reduction.
Process Digitization & Optimization:
- Provide valuable suggestions for improving existing operational processes through digitization and the effective utilization of selected tooling.
- Collaborate with various teams to understand operational challenges and propose automation-driven solutions that contribute to end-to-end process optimization.
Business Value Realization:
- Ensure measurable business benefits from automation initiatives, including:
- Cost Reduction: Identifying and implementing solutions that reduce operational expenditures.
- Greater Accuracy: Improving data integrity and reducing human error in processes.
- Delivery Speed: Accelerating operational workflows and service delivery.
- Customer Satisfaction: Contributing to improved service quality and faster issue resolution.
- Actively contribute to freeing human resources from repetitive tasks, enabling them to focus on problem-solving, process improvement, conducting analysis, and other value-added work, leading to higher employee engagement and new revenue opportunities.
Collaboration & Support:
- Work closely with network operations, engineering, and development teams to understand their needs and integrate automation solutions seamlessly across different network layers (e.g., Core, Transport, Access).
Technical Requirements (Most Visible):
- Scripting & Programming: Strong proficiency in at least one, and ideally multiple, scripting languages such as Python (highly preferred), Perl, Bash, or PowerShell.
- API Integration: Experience with RESTful APIs, SOAP, and other integration methods for connecting to various systems (NE, OSS, EMS, NMS).
Data Handling:
- Experience with data parsing (e.g., JSON, XML, CSV, text files).
- Skills in web scraping techniques.
- Familiarity with databases (SQL/NoSQL) for data storage and retrieval.
Network Domain Knowledge:
- Solid understanding of end-to-end telecommunications network architecture (e.g., Core, Transport, Access, Data Center).
- In-depth knowledge of FCAPS principles and their application in network operations.
- Familiarity with OSS/BSS concepts and typical functionalities (e.g., fault management, performance management, configuration management, service assurance).
- Understanding of network protocols (e.g., SNMP, Netconf, SSH, Telnet).
Automation Tools: Experience with automation frameworks or tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, RPA platforms like UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism).
- Operating Systems: Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments.
- Version Control: Experience with Git or other version control systems.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or a related engineering field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 to 6 years of experience in an OSS, Automation, or Network Operations role within the telecommunications industry, with a proven track record of improving operational processes.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate operational challenges into automated solutions.
- Process Improvement Mindset: Demonstrated ability to identify inefficiencies and propose practical improvements across complex systems.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborating effectively across teams.
- Proactive & Self-Starter: Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and take initiative in a dynamic environment.
