**Conceptualized in the year 2004 as a philanthropic initiative for the Eastern and North-Eastern
parts of India and the neighboring countries, the Tata Medical Center (TMC) started operations in
Kolkata on May 16, 2011. The hospital is governed by a charitable trust - Tata Medical Centre Trust.
It is an integrated Oncology facility with well-trained professional staff and equipped with modern
facilities and the most contemporary medical equipment. With a capacity of 437 beds, it serves all
sections of the society, with 75% of the infrastructure earmarked for subsidized treatment for the
underprivileged sections. It provides a wide spectrum of services from diagnosis and therapy to
rehabilitation and palliative support. The Institution's objective is to excel in service, education and
research. TMC is running many academic Programmes and has entered into institutional
collaborations in education, research, and outreach Programmes in the field of interdisciplinary
medical, research and technology.

The course is aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the pathology of neoplastic
diseases, with an emphasis on diagnosis and reporting to help in multidisciplinary care.

**Job Description:
During the two years, Fellows will be exposed to different systems in histopathology like GI,
GU, GYN, Head and Neck, Breast, Bone and Soft tissue, Pulmonary, Skin, Brain and
Hematolymphoid system. In addition they will have to see cytology slides that include
FNAC, fluid cytology and Gynecology related smears.

The fellow will be responsible for gross examination of specimens and perform non-guided
FNACs and on-site adequacy assessment of guided aspirations.

The fellow will review the histopathology and cytology cases first without the faculty, and
attempt to render diagnoses. Final discussion and sign-out with the faculty will follow on a
multi-headed microscope.

The fellow will learn interpreting ancillary techniques (immunohistochemistry, special
stains, molecular and cytogenetic tests) required for a comprehensive report including
minimum dataset parameters, along with pathology staging and appropriate biomarkers to
guide clinical management.

The fellow will prepare, present, and discuss cases at interdepartmental conferences.
Fellows will need to be actively involved in various quality control processes in the lab and

adhere to NABL accreditation related practices.
The programme also aims to provide an overview of molecular and cytogenetic techniques

used in current diagnostic practice, for which one month posting to these departments will
(availability of adequate number of Fellows / work load etc).

The fellow will be required to participate in research projects, present in national
conferences and publish meaningful, audits, case report and original research papers.

From 2017 onwards, Tata Medical Center has started conducting
Post Doctoral Certificate

Course /Fellowship (PDCC) in Oncopathology (including Histopathology and Cytology) under
the aegis
of the
Indian College of Pathologists (ICP) (vide Ref:
ICP/PDCC/PR/TMC/2017/1, Dated

February 2017).

The PDCC course is for one year and will commence from 2nd year of fellowship. This is optional and

Evaluation:

In addition to a continuous process of informal departmental reviews by the reporting consultants,
the fellows will be assessed by annual formal written (theory) and practical (slide based)
assessments.
PDCC fellows will be reviewed by a formal assessment by an external examiner at the end of their
tenure and will have to submit their thesis/dissertation before the assessment.

• MD Pathology or equivalent in the relevant specialty
