Job Summary

The Hydroponics Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operation of hydroponic systems to ensure optimal plant growth and production.

This role involves monitoring nutrient levels, pH balances, and water flow, troubleshooting system issues, and ensuring all equipment is clean and properly functioning.

The technician will also collaborate with other team members to achieve production goals and maintain a safe and efficient working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation and Setup:
Install and set up hydroponic systems including pipes, pumps, reservoirs, and irrigation controls.
Ensure proper alignment and configuration of equipment to optimize water and nutrient distribution.

Monitoring and Maintenance:
Monitor nutrient levels, pH levels, and water conductivity regularly.
Adjust nutrient solutions and water flow rates based on plant growth stages and environmental conditions.
Conduct routine inspections to identify and address leaks, clogs, or other system malfunctions promptly.

Troubleshooting and Repairs:
Diagnose and resolve issues related to irrigation systems, nutrient delivery, and environmental controls.
Perform repairs or replacements of faulty components to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.

Record Keeping and Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of nutrient usage, pH adjustments, system maintenance, and plant health data.
Compile reports on system performance, crop yields, and any issues encountered for review and analysis.

Cleaning and Sanitization:
Clean and sanitize all hydroponic system components regularly to prevent disease and contamination.
Follow proper protocols for handling and disposing of chemicals and cleaning agents safely.

Research and Development:
Stay informed about advancements in hydroponic technology, nutrient solutions, and cultivation techniques.
Participate in research projects or trials to test new equipment, methods, or plant varieties for improved efficiency and productivity.

Team Collaboration:
Work closely with growers, agricultural scientists, and other team members to coordinate planting schedules, harvests, and pest management strategies.
Provide training and guidance to other staff members on hydroponic system operation and maintenance procedures.

Compliance and Safety:
Adhere to safety regulations and protocols while handling equipment, chemicals, and electrical systems.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment to ensure safe working conditions for all personnel.

Qualifications and Skills:
Proven experience as a hydroponics technician or similar role in agriculture, horticulture, or greenhouse operations.
Knowledge of hydroponic systems, irrigation methods, nutrient management, and plant physiology.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
Attention to detail and a proactive approach to system maintenance and troubleshooting.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse team members.
Physical ability to lift and move equipment, climb ladders, and work in varying weather conditions.

Education and Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in horticulture, agriculture, or hydroponics is advantageous.
Certification in irrigation systems, chemical application, or related fields may be preferred.

Work Environment:
The work environment can vary and may include indoor hydroponic facilities, greenhouses, or outdoor agricultural settings.
May require working weekends, holidays, or overtime during peak planting and harvesting seasons.
Exposure to chemicals, fertilizers, and agricultural equipment is common; adherence to safety protocols is essential.
