CNC Programmer

Job Summary:

Protekz seeks a CNC Programmer with expertise in milling operations, CAD, CAM software, and G-code programming. Proficiency in Autodesk PowerMill and familiarity with machining materials and quality assurance are essential.

Applicants should possess a mechanical or tool & die engineering diploma and experience with VMCs, particularly Makino machines or Fanuc controller VMCs.

Machining Knowledge:

• Proficiency in understanding milling machine operations and processes, including different types of milling (e.g., 3axis).
• Knowledge of cutting tools, tool holders, and work holding methods.

Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Skills:

• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, ZWCAD, SolidWorks) to interpret and work with engineering drawings and 3D models.
• Ability to create or modify CAD models and drawings as needed.

CAM Software Proficiency:

• Mastery of CAM software tools Autodesk
• POWERMILL to generate toolpaths and Gcode programs for CNC milling machines.
• Skill in selecting appropriate toolpaths, cutting strategies, and machining parameters for efficient and accurate machining.

Geometry and Trigonometry:

• Strong understanding of geometry and trigonometry, as these are crucial for calculating toolpath coordinates and angles.

Blueprint Reading:

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately.

G-code Programming:

• Proficiency in writing and editing Gcode programs for CNC milling machines.
• Skill in troubleshooting and debugging Gcode programs.

Tool Selection and Management:

• Knowledge of tool selection, tool life management, and tool change procedures.
• Understanding of tool geometry, feeds, and speeds.

Material Knowledge:

• Familiarity with various materials (e.g., metals, plastics) and their machining properties.

Quality Assurance:

• Attention to detail to ensure that machined parts meet tight tolerances and quality standards.
• Ability to use measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, and CMMs for quality inspection.

Problem Solving:

• Strong problemsolving skills to address machining challenges and optimize toolpaths for efficiency and quality.

Computer Skills:

• Proficiency in computer operations and the ability to work with CAM software and CNC machine controls.

Communication Skills:

• Effective communication with engineers, machinists, and other team members to understand project requirements and provide technical support.

Project Management:

• Capability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Safety Awareness:

• Strict adherence to safety protocols and best practices to maintain a safe working environment.

Continuous Learning:

• Willingness to stay updated with advancements in CNC machining technology and software through training and selfstudy.

Attention to Detail:

• Precision and attention to detail are critical to achieving accurate and highquality machined components.

Teamwork:

• Collaboration with other team members, including machinists and engineers, to optimize machining processes and solve problems.

Ethical Conduct:

• Adherence to ethical standards in all aspects of the job, including honesty and integrity in reporting quality and production data.

Qualification:

Knowledge and Experience:

• Minimum Diploma in mechanical Engineering or preferably with Diploma in Tool & Die Engineering.
• Possess a thorough understanding of CNC programming principles.
• Clear knowledge of Autodesk power mill software.

Tooling and Molding Background:

• Have experience working in a tool room environment (preferred).
• Possess a general understanding of tool making and mold manufacturing processes.

Specific Machine Experience:

• Experience operating Vertical Machining Centers (VMCs).
• Prior experience with Makino machines or Fanuc controller VMCs is a strong plus.
