Within Azure Data, the databases team focuses on developing and maintaining Microsoft's operational Database systems. Our mission is to store and manage data efficiently in structured ways to support a wide range of applications across different industries. We are on a mission to create developer-friendly, essential, AI-powered operational databases encompassing relational, non-relational, and OSS offerings.

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in software development, complexity analysis, and scalable system design to identify and implement software enhancements. Your primary focus will be ensuring that our services/systems are exceptionally stable, performant, and meet the expectations of our customers. You will collaborate closely with other engineering teams, offering a comprehensive view of our cloud services.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering or related fields, or equivalent industry experience. Over 6 years of experience in writing tools, automation/scripting (Powershell, Python, or similar), programming (C++, C#), and enhancing subcomponents within services/products to deliver and manage software in production. Extensive troubleshooting/debugging experience, including telemetry-based analysis (KQL preferred), across network, hardware, and distributed service layers. Proficient in debugging, fixing, and optimizing code. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Other Requirements

Must meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements. This includes specialized security screenings such as the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.

This position entails passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and subsequently every two years.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Experience in understanding distributed systems and networking is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Identify opportunities and lead the design and implementation of end-to-end telemetry, alerting, self-healing, and automation capabilities for enhancing service health, manageability, and reliability. Participate in on-call rotations and take ownership of investigating and resolving service issues, emphasizing broad communications, learning, and teaching throughout the process. Engage with customers/support representatives and maintain deep technical communication with product engineering and management teams to enhance services. Be responsible for availability, performance, and supportability targets for the service. Develop functional and technical documentation and stay updated on relevant technologies and procedures.
