About the organisation:
It is an organisation working for the movement of women workers in the informal economy, working towards the economic empowerment and self-reliance of these workers. Over 50 years, 2.5 million women in India across 18 states have become members of this decentralized, grassroot movement.
About the role:
We are looking for a dynamic leader, who is sensitive to the needs of informal women workers, and is able to adapt to contexts and situations with ease. The MD should be able to create an inclusive, safe workspace for the staff, rooted in ideas of fairness, inclusion, transparency and democracy. The leader should be able to collaborate both with the members, i.e. informal women workers cooperatives/collectives, as well as operate in policy change spaces - nationally and internationally.
(ONLY WOMEN CANDIDATES)
Qualification & Experience:
- An advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a development field such as international development, economics, sociology, gender studies, public policy
- Experience, preferably in the development & especially cooperative sector, working with informal women workers. Additionally, 5-7 years of leadership experience.
- Skilled in Gujarati speaking fluency

- Providing regular information to the organisation on all progress, operations and finances, presenting the draft annual report, financial statements and budgets to the board for approval.
- Performing such other duties as specified in the bye-laws of the organisation
Financial Performance and Viability:
- Develop and raise resources to ensure the financial health of the organization through fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support organisations mission.
- Responsible for the fiscal integrity of organisation, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
- Responsible for fiscal management and operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with funders/other stakeholders.
Organization Mission and Strategy:
- Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.
- Responsible for the enhancement of organisations image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.
- To increase and strengthen the member-base of organisation i.e., increasing the number of cooperatives and collectives obtaining services from the organisation.
Organizations Operations:
- Oversees and implements measures to ensure that the operations of the organization are efficient.
- Mentoring, vision and capacity-building of the team.
Team management
- Working with the staff (both grassroots and professional personnel) to build internal capacities and growth strategies for each team, including: capacity-building, finance, HR, research and advocacy, communication and enterprise development
- Working with sector-specific teams, i.e. handicrafts and agriculture, to ensure smooth operations.
