Functional Description:

The Global Risk and Compliance organization, led by the Chief Risk Officer, is American Express Independent Risk Management (IRM) function.

The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team is responsible for establishing and maintaining the Companys overall risk management and governance framework. The team is also responsible for ensuring that risk management activities are being conducted in a manner compliant with regulatory requirements and expectations. The team aggregates and reports on key risk management and oversight activities to the relevant management and Board risk committees.

Roles & Responsibilities:

The Enterprise Compliance Risk Governance (ECRG) framework focuses on monitoring and reporting laws and regulations. Applicable laws and regulations in ECRG are categorized into Safety and Soundness areas tracked through the governance and monitoring activities across all lines of defense.

·Responsible for the policy and program requirements including determination of roles and responsibilities across company

·Maintain inventory of all applicable laws and regulations

·Notify owners by Safety and Soundness area responsible for ensuring compliance with new/amended regulations and determining the need for new controls or identifying existing controls

·Develop requirements for monitoring and testing to ensure compliance with laws and regulations in scope

·Responsible for reporting to senior leadership

Minimum Qualifications:

·1-2+ years of experience in risk management and governance or a similar role.

·Masters degree in a relevant quantitative field like Finance, Economics, Finance and Risk Engineering, etc. or relevant work experience in the risk management space.

·Ability to work independently and across a matrix organization partnering with business partners, functional owners, capabilities, technology teams and external stakeholders.

·Understanding of the regulatory landscape for large banks including specific supervisory guidance around risk management frameworks (e.g., OCC Heightened Standards).

·An understanding of foundational risk management frameworks including financial and non-financial risks faced by a financial institution and their potential impacts on the Companys operating environment.

·Proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

·Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information sets effectively and succinctly for consumption by regulators, senior risk leadership, and Executive Committee members.

·Comfortable with bringing structure and thought leadership to changing priorities and ambiguous requirements and delivering on insightful outcomes that support risk management objectives for the Company.

·Strong attention to detail and sense of end-to-end ownership of processes and deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications

·Specific training or experience with roles in the Enterprise Risk Management space, particularly with Risk Identification and Taxonomy related activities, Risk Assessments and Governance Frameworks.

·CFA or FRM certification

·Experience working on or supporting leadership for U.S. regulatory engagements is desired but not required
