We are seeking an accomplished legal professional to assume the role of General Manager Legal in our esteemed maritime organization.

As a dynamic legal leader, the candidate will be responsible for overseeing and leading the legal department, ensuring excellence in handling intricate legal matters in the maritime industry.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in litigation, arbitration, P&I club, and marine insurance, coupled with a strong leadership background in managing large legal teams.

The role requires a focus on continuous improvement projects, emphasizing loss prevention, mitigation, and digitization initiatives, as well as proficiency in implementing cost-effective employee management strategies.


Reporting:
Director Legal

Key Responsibilities:
Legal Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the legal department, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and regulatory compliance

Team Management:
Lead and manage a large legal team responsible for negotiations, recovery, and payout budgets. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the legal department.

Litigation and Arbitration:
Oversee and guide the legal team in handling complex litigation and arbitration cases, ensuring the protection of the company's interests and minimizing financial risks

Continuous Improvement:
Spearhead and drive continuous improvement projects, focusing on loss prevention, mitigation, and digitization initiatives to enhance safety protocols, reduce incidents, and optimize legal processes

Liaison and Negotiation:
Interface with P&I clubs, stakeholders, and external legal entities, demonstrating strong negotiation skills and fostering positive working relationships

Contract Negotiations:
Play a pivotal role in contract negotiations, ensuring favourable terms and compliance with legal standards. Provide guidance on applicable contracts required for the operation of the business.

Legal Research and Analysis:
Conduct in-depth legal research, analysis, and provide strategic advice on legal matters relevant to the maritime industry

Employee Management:

Implement effective employee management strategies, optimizing resource allocation, promoting operational efficiency, and ensuring a high level of employee satisfaction.


Qualifications and Years Experience:
Min 14 Years experience in the relevant field.

LL.B bachelor's degree in law (mandatory)Proven track record of excellence in maritime litigation, arbitration, P&I club, and marine insuranceLeadership Course or equivalent training in managementComprehensive understanding of the shipping sectorStrong commitment to delivering exceptional legal services.
