This pivotal role will lead the university's research ascent, fostering a culture of innovation, securing substantial external funding, and propelling Woxsen to the forefront of global research excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Vision: Develop a comprehensive R&D strategy aligned with Woxsen's mission, vision, and long-term goals.
  • Identify emerging research areas with high potential for global impact and internal alignment.
  • Establish clear roadmaps and key performance indicators (KPIs) for measuring research success.
  • Lead the development and implementation of research policies, procedures, and infrastructure to support faculty and students.
  • Oversee the university's intellectual property portfolio and ensure its effective management and commercialization.
  • Research Excellence & Funding: Recruit and retain top-tier faculty researchers across disciplines.
  • Lead the development of competitive research proposals to secure substantial external funding.
  • Actively manage and cultivate relationships with government agencies, industry partners, and philanthropic organizations.
  • Oversee the efficient and effective allocation of research resources, including budget management.
  • Culture & Collaboration: Foster a vibrant research culture that values innovation, collaboration, and interdisciplinarity.
  • Develop and implement faculty development programs to enhance research skills and productivity.
  • Build strong partnerships with academic institutions and research centres worldwide.
  • Cultivate a supportive environment for student researchers, promoting research internships, fellowships, and undergraduate research opportunities.
  • Communication & Dissemination: Develop a comprehensive research communication strategy for internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure the dissemination of research findings through high-quality publications, presentations at conferences, and public outreach initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to increase the university's research visibility and reputation globally.
  • Track and measure research performance through bibliometrics, citations, and societal impact metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field from a top-tier research university, with a demonstrably strong publication record in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressively responsible experience in research leadership and administration, preferably in a higher education setting with a proven track record of research excellence.
  • International experience of 5+ years
  • A documented history of securing significant external funding for research endeavours, evidenced by successful grant proposals and funding awards.
  • Extensive experience in managing large research budgets and ensuring fiscal responsibility, with a demonstrated understanding of research costing models and financial management best practices.
  • A thorough understanding of research ethics, intellectual property law, and research commercialization strategies, with a proven ability to navigate the complexities of intellectual property management.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor researchers at all levels.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and planning skills with a proven ability to develop and implement a long-term research vision aligned with the university's strategic plan.
  • A deep commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive research environment, promoting equity and inclusion in research opportunities and outcomes.
