Data Engineer

Overview of role

GroupM Nexus Hub is looking for a Junior Data Engineer to join the Data Management team. If you have a passion for data, staying up to date with new technologies, and have a keen eye for detail, then this role is perfect for you.

This position plays a crucial part in our Data and Technology department. You will be in charge of expanding and optimizing our data pipeline architecture for reporting, ML models, and measurement. Your main task will be to ensure that our team has access to the necessary data to drive our clients' businesses forward.

You will assist our GCP Engineers in utilizing the Google Cloud platform to construct comprehensive databases, transforming data from various sources like Google Analytics, Campaign Manager, Search Ads 360, and client data. This data lays the groundwork for us to offer cutting-edge solutions that revolutionize our clients' marketing and media activities. Additionally, you will aid our Data Scientists in addressing ad hoc queries, crafting statistical and machine learning models, and creating data visualizations tailored to specific client needs.

Measures of success

  • In three months, you will have gained a solid understanding of our internal and client GCP architecture, current tools, processes, and ongoing team projects.
  • Within six months, you will have embarked on a learning journey towards achieving a GCP certification and initiated the development of a new internal product/tool.
  • By the 12-month mark, you'll be supporting senior team members with projects, taking ownership of key internal processes, contributing to the development of new products/services, and conducting internal training sessions to upskill junior team members.

Responsibilities of the role

  • Assist in establishing, configuring, and maintaining Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and other cloud services.
  • Monitor cloud infrastructure for performance and security issues, and take proactive steps to resolve any identified problems.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to design and implement scalable, reliable cloud solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to cloud services and applications.
  • Implement security best practices to protect cloud resources and data.
  • Participate in backup and disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in cloud technologies.
  • Document procedures and configurations to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Offer technical support and assistance to stakeholders.

What you'll need

  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies, with a strong interest in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Familiarity with cloud service providers like Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP is advantageous.
  • Proficient programming skills in one or more languages, preferably Python.
  • Experience with containerization tools such as Docker.
  • Experience using batch data workflow tools like Airflow.
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, and VPN.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work well in a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Desire to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new tasks and hit the ground running.
