The Red Hat Experience Engineering (XE) Sustaining Engineering team is seeking a Principal Software Maintenance Engineer to lead a new team dedicated to enhancing the long-term product experience of Red Hat OpenShift customers.

  • Guide development of new Red Hat OpenShift product maintenance offerings, striving for global leadership in long-term product experience.
  • Lead daily activities of product maintenance engineering teams, serving as a regional and global expert on Red Hat OpenShift product issues.
  • Resolve critical issues impacting the long-term business success of Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Work within the Red Hat OpenShift portfolio and ensure delivery of maintenance streams.
  • Collaborate with developer and QE counterparts, product and project manager, and release engineering teams globally to meet schedule requirements and high-quality standards expected by Red Hat customers.
  • Diagnose failure root causes.
  • Backport CVE and bug fixes to stable release streams.
  • Coordinate responses to blockers, regressions, upgrade failures, or failing CI jobs.
  • Develop features and bug fixes in Kubernetes(upstream) and OpenShift (downstream) within an agile team.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor tests and incorporate automated tests into a continuous integration workflow as much as possible.
  • Onboard and train new team members.
  • Mentor team members.
  • Manage release engineering operations.
  • Lead patch review process.

  • Exceptional debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Experience in developing code at scale on complex source control structures.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with a global team.
  • Ability to multitask and consistently deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English.
