Role: Sr. Manager - Power System Consulting

We are looking for an electrical engineer who is passionate about the field of electrical engineering and possesses strong academic and practical knowledge of various aspects of power system studies. You will be responsible for providing electrical power system consulting and engineering support services to various clients around the world, using power system software such as ETAP, PSCAD, CDEGS, or equivalent software, along with other engineering tools. Your responsibilities will include performing power system analysis, designing and reviewing electrical systems, and troubleshooting electrical site issues and tripping incidents.

Develop the technical competency of direct reports/junior team members to cater to the project requirements and provide technical and performance oversight for members of the project team. Ensure the application of relevant international standards and engineering knowledge in various projects. Be responsible for the preparation of a detailed study report based on the simulation & analysis and lead the engineering effort for the project.

Manage selected projects, project tasks/responsibilities as assigned, and/or design processes (or parts of projects) to meet agreed-upon budget, quality, and timeframe targets. Deliver fully documented designs to meet client objectives and adhere to ETAP quality system requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

As an electrical engineer specializing in power system consulting, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and guiding the project team in power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, motor start, transient stability, relay coordination, arc flash, harmonic analysis, electromagnetic interference studies, electromagnetic switching transient (insulation coordination studies), traction simulation studies, and renewable energy system studies using software like ETAP, PSCAD, CDEGS, or equivalent. You will also provide solutions and recommendations for power system design, operation, and optimization based on the results of these studies.
  • Designing and reviewing electrical systems, including power distribution systems, industrial control systems, and renewable energy systems, complying with international code and design standards, and delivering this study with high quality.
  • Conduct internal review and quality checks of engineering models and calculations to ensure compliance with the project's requirements.
  • Understand scope and change in scope when it arises. Also, ensure projects are completed within the given man-hours.
  • Proactively manage selected projects (or components of projects), manage resource allocation, manage subcontractors, manage the simulation/analysis and design (including reports and calculations), ensure the integrity of the overall design (in collaboration with other design disciplines), provide quality assurance, and handle client feedback.
  • Troubleshooting electrical tripping, site incidents, failures etc. and providing technical support to customers and clients for resolution of the same.
  • Resolving technical queries raised by the customers/clients on project reports and providing them with accurate and timely information.
  • Preparing reports and presentations / Workshop based on the project requirements and delivering them to the customers/clients in a professional manner.
  • Identify opportunities and driving implementation of re-engineering strategies to maximise the profitability.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

To be eligible for this position, you should have:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or a related field is required from a recognized university or institution.
  • A significant number of years' experience in power system study projects, preferably in a consulting environment, is required. Consulting experience in power projects in the Middle East is preferred.
  • Proficiency in the fundamental principles of electrical engineering and knowledge of electrical products and their workings is necessary.
  • Knowledge and experience in electrical power system studies. These include Load flow, short circuit, Motor Start, Transient Stability, Relay Co-ordination, Arc Flash, Harmonic Analysis, Reliability studies and Electromagnetic switching transient (Insulation co-ordination studies). Also, shall have knowledge/exposure to FACT devices such as SVC, STATCOM, active filters etc., and on grid interconnected battery & energy storage system, grid integrated renewable generation, grid connected inverters, inverter dynamics and EMI/EMC studies is preferred.
  • Experience of using ETAP/PSCAD/CDEGS/PSSE software or equivalent software for carrying out the power system studies.
  • Excellent mathematical skills applied in engineering calculations. Organizational skills and proactive approach in project management.
  • Ability to understand and provide solutions to technical problems and to lead, with good influencing, motivating and delegating skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer skills related to creation of reports and presentations in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint are necessary.
  • Good communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the team.

It would be preferable if you also have:

  • Knowledge of Python, MATLAB coding etc.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of renewable energy systems.
