Position Title:
Student Counselor
Overview:
The Student Counselor is responsible for providing guidance, support, and counseling services to students within an educational institution. They address various personal, social, emotional, and academic issues that may affect students' well-being and academic performance.
Responsibilities:
1.
Individual Counseling:
Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions with students to address personal, emotional, or academic concerns.
2.
Group Counseling:
Facilitate group counseling sessions to address common issues among students and promote peer support.
3.
Crisis Intervention:
Provide immediate support and intervention for students experiencing crises, such as emotional distress, trauma, or emergencies.
4.
Assessment and Referral:
Assess students' needs and refer them to appropriate resources or external services when necessary, such as mental health professionals, academic support programs, or community agencies.
5.Academic Advising:
Assist students in setting academic goals, developing study skills, and overcoming academic challenges.
6.
Career Counseling:
Provide guidance and resources to help students explore career options, develop career plans, and prepare for the job market.
7.Advocacy:
Advocate for students' needs and rights within the educational institution, collaborating with faculty, staff, and administrators to create a supportive environment.
8.Prevention Programs:
Develop and implement prevention programs and workshops on topics such as stress management, conflict resolution, substance abuse prevention, and mental health awareness.
9.Documentation:
Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and referrals in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
10.
Professional Development:
Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and research in counseling and student development through ongoing training and professional development activities.
11.Collaboration:
Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders, such as academic advisors, residence life staff, and student organizations, to coordinate services and support for students.
12.Outreach:
Conduct outreach activities to promote counseling services, raise awareness about mental health issues, and encourage help-seeking behavior among students.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
- State licensure or certification as a counselor or therapist (requirements may vary depending on location).
- Experience working in a counseling or mental health setting, preferably with adolescents or young adults.
- Knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and ethical guidelines.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and listening skills.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Empathy, compassion, and a nonjudgmental attitude toward clients.
- Organizational and time management skills to handle a caseload of students and administrative responsibilities.
- Proficiency in using counseling software, electronic health records systems, and other technology tools.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and self-care practices

Any Bachelors degree is preferred
